GHOSTS, MATLOCK, ELSBETH

“Belly of the Beast” – Matty works on a case with Julian in which a young woman sues after experiencing severe symptoms from a clinical trial. At the company holiday party, Olympia learns a secret about Julian’s past, on MATLOCK, Thursday, Dec. 5 (9:01-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. Let’s talk about Thursday night’s TV!

GHOSTS: Awww, the escarghost! Poor Trevor grieving his dog and feeling guilt over abandoning him in death. And now he lost escarghost?! I know they can’t have a pet, but they deserve a pet.

Not sure how I feel about the book they’re working on (in general and the pivot), but I suppose turning it into fiction could lead to a lot of fun insanity years down the line. (Just wait until it gets adapted and Isaac has to see his fake life play out on screen.)

CRIME SCENE KITCHEN: How. Do. You. Add. Chocolate. To. A. Dish. With. No. Signs. Of. Chocolate. In. The. Kitchen?! This is the finale! How many contestants have gotten derailed by that simple mistake?! Wow. Wow. Wow. Jessica and Lenore were so lucky they won they $100k in spite of that.

MATLOCK: Worth repeating, but Kathy Bates is just so damn good in this show. It’s a regular thought, but my God, her quiet grief, rage, and anxiety over destroying a young woman’s life in the hope it leads to long-term justice was actually painful to watch. (And Matty’s a damn good lawyer! But, man, she’s going to feel guilt about this case for the rest of her life, I would guess.)

Aren’t the holidays supposed to be happy-ish on TV? So much pain! Olympia and Julian imploded before their reconciliation could really get off the ground. (Sigh.) Billy got dumped while trying to propose. I know Sarah got a bit of happiness, which is nice, but…so much heartbreak.

ELSBETH: Okay, the color-blind twist was very clever…I just thought the mismatching was quirky Christmas fun versus an actual clue.

I’m happy for Kaya she’s able to move out, but I’m sad for me (okay, and Elsbeth) that it means we’re losing the roommate setup I’ve enjoyed this season. But it’s very sweet Kaya and Wagner got Teddy into town. I’m really excited to see how the show explores that this season.

[For more on Teddy’s arrival, here’s what Ben Levi Ross shared.]
