“One Angry Woman” – Elsbeth finally makes it as a true New Yorker when she is summoned to jury duty and lands on a murder trial where she faces off with the unusually difficult Judge Milton Crawford (Michael Emerson) who will prove a formidable adversary, on the CBS original series ELSBETH, Thursday, Dec. 12 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)* Pictured (L-R): Carrie Preston as Elsbeth Tascioni and Michael Emerson as Judge Milton Crawford Photo: Michael Parmelee/CBS ©2024 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. The Thursday, December 12 episode of ELSBETH finds Elsbeth (Carrie Preston) in an unusual situation: She meets a foe, Judge Milton Crawford (played by Michael Emerson), who sticks around for more than one episode.

“One Angry Woman” also serves as an on-screen reunion for Preston and Emerson, who are married in real life, after previously working together in shows like CLAWS, LOST, and PERSON OF INTEREST.

“This is my first time leading a cast in a network show and I believe it’s the first time we’ve played adversaries,” Preston tells Give Me My Remote via email. “So one nice thing is it’s a situation where we’re glad to get to spend some time together on set, and then there’s the need to set aside our wife/husband roles and become Elsbeth/Judge Crawford, who are suspicious of each other and trying to outmaneuver the other.”

The duo first meet when Elsbeth is called to jury duty. “Unlike every other New Yorker, she is so, so excited to be on a jury!” Preston previews. “She’s enthralled with the chance to see a different side of the courtroom. As you can imagine, it’s a cast of characters in that box and she’s delighted with each and every one of them for different reasons. Elsbeth never met a stranger, and unfortunately for the judge, that includes him.”

But red flags start going up for the lawyer when she observes that the trial (where a woman is accused of killing her lover) isn’t exactly going the way she would expect…and the judge doesn’t seem to mind.

“During the trial, Elsbeth quickly realizes she can’t object to some objectionable actions, including the judge’s,” Preston teases. “She’s a lawyer and respects the rule of law and the pageantry of the courtroom, but her sixth sense is working overtime with this guy. She’s not blinded by his good-old-boy network connections and blue-blood pedigree.”

Elsbeth really has her plate full in the hour, though, as her son, Teddy (Ben Levi Ross), is still in town after his holiday surprise return home.

“Wasn’t that the most darling reveal when Santa was Teddy, home for Christmas?” Preston marvels of the ending to “Gold, Frankincense, and Murder.” “We are all so excited that Ben Levi Ross has joined the cast, and our chemistry is hopefully something that audiences will find relatable. Elsbeth is so proud of Teddy and his work in DC, but truly, having him around more in her new town of NYC would be icing on the cake. She’s pretty excited about the potential to spend more time with him…but that puts pressure on him!”

ELSBETH, Thursdays, 10/9c, CBS
