Ghosts A Very Arondekar Christmas Preview

“A Very Arondekar Christmas Part 1” and “A Very Arondekar Christmas Part 2” – A leaky water heater mishap threatens to ruin holiday plans as Sam and Jay prepare to host Jay’s hard-to-please dad, Mahesh (Bernard White), difficult-to-impress mom, Champa (Sakina Jaffrey), and sister Bela (Punam Patel), on a one-hour GHOSTSMAS special of the CBS Original series GHOSTS, Thursday, Dec. 19 (8:00-9:01 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. GHOSTS embraces the holiday spirit(s) on the Thursday, December 19 episode, “A Very Arondekar Christmas,” as Jay’s (Utkarsh Ambudkar) parents, Mahesh (Bernard White) and Champa (Sakina Jaffrey), come to visit the couple at the Woodstone B&B. (The one-hour episode has a special start time of 8/7c.)

“Jay’s dad Mahesh and mom Champa are a long-married, loving couple who care deeply about family and just want the best for their kids,” GHOSTS showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman preview to Give Me My Remote via email. “In particular, Champa and [Rose McIver‘s] Sam have a bit of strained relationship, but a lot of that is tied up in Jay being the apple of his mother’s eye and no one ever really being good enough, in Champa’s eyes, for her little boy. But over the course of this special, Sam is seeking to win Champa over, once and for all.”

Things get even more complicated when, naturally, (accidental) ghost shenanigans occur. And while the promo for the episode revealed a possession happens, the showrunners tease, “It’s a double possession, actually! With basement ghost Nancy possessing Sam and Pete possessing Jay.”

And even that is complex. While they’ve now undergone a number of possessions and been able to separate the ghost from its human host, “the latter possession comes with a particular challenge,” Port and Wiseman tease. “Given Pete’s ghost power of being able to leave the property, he can’t be expelled the way some other possessors have, by driving across the ghost boundary.”

While this is a device they’ve utilized a few times in the show’s four season run, the showrunners still give their cast a bit of warning before they get episodes as ambitious as “A Very Arondekar Christmas.”

“They receive cryptic texts like us asking Rose, ‘Can you imitate Betsy Sodaro?’” Port and Wiseman shares. “But that’s mostly because we want them to be thinking about it and prepared; we had complete faith she and Utkarsh would both pull it off beautifully and they exceeded our high expectations.”

GHOSTS, Thursdays, 8:30/7:30c, CBS
