About Last Night…DEAL OR NO DEAL ISLAND, DOC, THE ROOKIE, and More

Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!
ST. DENIS MEDICAL: Not to be like “This reminded me of THE OFFICE episode,” but…this reminded me of THE OFFICE episode where they talked about who had sex in the office and Jim/Pam then tried to find a place to sneak off because they were outliers. But it was also a good way to circle back to Serena and Matt, subtly.
KITCHEN NIGHTMARES: It’s interesting this episode was actually less awful than most. Like, yeah, the food was frozen and there were too many dishes on the menu, but there wasn’t rotting food, awful, people, etc. It was surprisingly calm as Gordon tried to fix things! (Though Gordon’s frustration over the owner’s stubbornness was funny. Pot, kettle, etc.)
DEAL OR NO DEAL ISLAND: Dr. Will outing Parvati had been on SURVIVOR was…come on, man. I’ve never actually watched Dr. Will’s BIG BROTHER season, but he has been too much on this show. Like, there’s a chaos agent, and then there’s this. So far, he’s not even a fun villain, he’s just mean.
I felt terrible for Rock, though, who got money for the group, but had one of the worst player vs. banker games I’ve ever seen. Having a high number and then knocking out almost all of the high cases? Ouch, ouch, ouch. I guess the only consolation is there was no good deal he could have taken, but still. Eesh. He tried his best.
DOC: I don’t love the story with Richard’s lying—it continues to feel like a hat on a hat—but the password reset was a hilarious, believable tech problem to have and to delay Amy’s own surroundings/information she had before she lost the eight years ratting him out.
It’s also an interesting puzzle to make it so Amy kept her job: They couldn’t fire her because of her injury, nor could they reveal it because of HIPAA. It still feels outlandish at times, but at least it makes sense.
(Also, yeah, I don’t blame the patient for giving up. I feel like when your wife dies in your hospital bed, it makes sense you don’t want a risky surgery, too.)
THE ROOKIE: Oh my God, I laughed at the Bart Simpson-like writing on the board. I liked the episode, but I also wish they had dug deeper into some of it by putting things into different episodes so they had that time/space. Rachel’s return was interesting, but it felt like it didn’t add as much as I would have liked. (For her and Lucy!) Tim and Lucy swapping rookies was fun, but it was so brief and felt like it ultimately felt more about the two men teaming up versus actually seeing how the new pairings might have worked/how the rookies might have benefited from a brief change in TO.
I don’t blame Nolan for his fear, but also…yeah, there’s only so much he can do in that house. Also, uh, HE DOESN’T KNOW HIS WIFE’S BIRTHDAY?
THE IRRATIONAL: A fun, fun episode. Yes, it was obvious who the bad guy was—the Curse of the Known Guest Star—but it was delightful to get a look into the world of magic and see Rose and Alec so happy together. (Even if she acknowledged he doesn’t take his shirt off, which I had never really thought about. But I’m also glad Rose talked to him about it.)
