About Last Night…LAW & ORDER, LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT, and FOUND
January 24, 2025 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Thursday night’s TV!
LAW & ORDER: Okay, look, it definitely could have used more from the ER reunion, but I also get it might not have been as realistic given when/how Lyman was introduced in the episode. I’m glad we got the interrogation scene at least.
It’s interesting—normally Known Guest Star automatically means they’re the guilty person, but given how smooth things went once they found Lyman, I expected a twist on a twist, somehow, that there was more or that he was protecting someone else. So I guess I was surprised by the non-twist?
LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT: A marked improvement from last week. And it actually felt considerably more like an ensemble, for the most part. Bruno and Silva have worked well together every time we’ve gotten the chance to see them, and I’m glad they’re continuing to explore that.
Given this is the largest police ensemble we’ve had on the show in a bit, I’m confused as to why they continue to have Carisi do police work (which feels like it’s hindering the other characters’ chance to show us anything about them and cutting into us getting compelling law-adjacent stories from him), but…
I don’t know if I’m surprised at this point, but I do remain sad how they’ve entirely erased Olivia’s entire non-work life from the show this season. This was a case with a teen in the system…we’re supposed to think Olivia’s not thinking about her own teen son, who bounced around in the system as a baby before she was allowed to foster and then adopt him? (And if you’re going to have Carisi basically being a cop for most of the hour with her, it would at least be quasi-justifiable from a story point if it’s because it did allow her to have a moment with her friend where she acknowledged the case’s impact on her. Alas.)
FOUND: Weirdly, Gabi working on that 24-hour time clock before she had to turn herself in didn’t change the pacing/urgency of the show…I think it might be because a missing person, in general, already has the show so fast-paced?
But, uh, the Sir mess is going to be fascinating. Probably awful for Gabi, but fascinating. He’s spiraling, and his being out of control feels even more dangerous than his normal mode.
