THE ROOKIE: Melissa O’Neil Previews Chenford’s Unconventional Valentine’s Day

Love is in the air on the Tuesday, February 11 episode of THE ROOKIE, “The Gala”…but things are less-than ideal for exes Lucy (Melissa O’Neil) and Tim (Eric Winter) when they’re assigned an unconventional work task on Valentine’s Day.

“You know, I think our girl is struggling on Valentine’s Day,” O’Neil tells Give Me My Remote with a laugh in the video below. “It’s not how she wants to spend Valentine’s Day. I mean, having to hang out with your ex that you have all this unresolved business with, while being in very close proximity and doing what you guys do best, but having zero [space]…[and] all of that unspoken energy. I think it really lays the foundation for what ends up being, like, a really spicy evening. She has no idea what’s gonna happen, and they have this whole Valentine’s Day event to go to.”

After work, the team has to attend a charity gala—and they have the option to take plus-ones. While the former couple is discussing the event, “he kind of just layers in that he’s taking somebody? Oh, God. It’s just an awful moment!” O’Neil previews with a laugh. “It’s a bad day at work. But I think what ends up happening—we don’t see it, it’s off-camera—I think she goes home and [says], ‘I’m going to look so good. I’m going to make sure I look so good when I go out because I don’t know who he’s bringing, but I need to turn it out.’ And I love that for her.”

The hour also includes a #Chenford moment that was been teased in THE ROOKIE’s season 7 trailer. “I think the two of them find themselves in a situation that they certainly had no intention to get into,” O’Neil teases. “But their connection is an undeniable one. And despite themselves, they…do the best they can.”

As a bonus? The episode also includes a guest spot from Colton Dunn, who stars in THE ROOKIE creator Alexi Hawley’s other series, THE RECRUIT.  “He makes a very fun appearance on THE ROOKIE,” Hawley previews. “It was a joy…And he’s got a very fun character. I don’t want to spoil it, but it’s fun.”
