Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!
SNL50: THE ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL: What a delightful special. Of course there are things I wish we got, characters I wish had been reprised, celebrities who were inexplicably absent, but so many of the sketches were truly excellent. Plus, Adam Sandler’s song got me emotional; it was clear what the event meant to him, and it was a beautiful love letter to the show. (New York 50th Musical was also a great, catchy sketch. And Meryl Freakin’ Streep as Colleen Senior?! Incredible.)
It’s hard to imagine what television will be like in ten years—and if SNL will even be on, at least in its current form—but it’s nice to imagine there might be another celebration of this show in another decade. (Hey, they did it for season 40. That feels like, approximately, 728 years ago at this point. Stranger things have happened.)
FAMILY GUY: Well, I don’t know TOP GUN, so this was one of the rare parodies that didn’t work for me. I can normally appreciate it even if I haven’t seen the movie/show, but this one just didn’t click. Alas.
THE GREAT NORTH: Oh, I loved it. Wolf’s hallucinations were hilarious and freaky. But, really, the heart of the episode was Beef’s pep talk after he realized his son had been hiding incognito…may we all be so lucky to have that kind of support.
THE EQUALIZER: I feel a bit like Charlie Brown and the football with Dante and Robyn, but I really hope this time around they’re able to give their relationship a real shot; they deserve it.
