The plans to potentially expand the FBI franchise have shifted: Originally, CBS was set to air a backdoor pilot for FBI: CIA as a spring episode of FBI. Now, Deadline reports that is no longer the case, as the potential spinoff series is still trying to secure its casting. (The series could still get a pickup, though.)
A rep for CBS had no comment.
In the potential series, “A dedicated, strait-laced FBI agent and a street-smart CIA agent are part of a new, clandestine taskforce charged with solving and preventing domestic terrorism in and around New York City.” FBI: CIA is being created by FBI franchise creator Dick Wolf, FBI: MOST WANTED showrunner David Hudgins, along with Nicole Perlman and David Chasteen.
The move comes as things are drastically shifting for the CBS franchise. Though FBI is in the middle of a three-season renewal, spinoffs MOST WANTED and INTERNATIONAL were canceled earlier this month.
