AMERICAN IDOL: A Soulful Teen Singer Wins the Final Platinum Ticket

AMERICAN IDOL saved one of its best auditions for last.

On the Sunday, March 30 episode—which marked the end of this season’s audition rounds—17-year-old Canaan James Hill closed out the show with his take on “I Need Your Glory.”

Judge Lionel Richie was so overjoyed that he got up mid-audition. When Hill finished singing, Richie approached him and asked, “Would you do that again?”

“I’m kind of speechless,” fellow judge Carrie Underwood said.

After the judges gave Hill a “yes” to Hollywood, Luke Bryan took it one step further. “What are you ready to do, Lionel?” he asked. “Are we ready?”

Richie went to the mounted Platinum Ticket and tried to remove it to present it to Hill…but it was stuck. Bryan yanked it out and presented it to the teen.
