Let’s talk about Wednesday night’s TV!
CHICAGO MED: Oh, man, poor Archer. I understand why he tried to bury himself in work, but ouch and yikes.
I really loved the heart transplant story, as heartbreaking as it was. First of all, it’s always fantastic to see Amy Acker in anything. But the notion that her character’s daughter might still be a part of the heart that got donated was a lovely gut punch. I mean, terrifying given “her” reaction to the water in the host of the new child using it (and awful he could feel her distress), but isn’t the notion we might not be entirely gone if we donate our organs a lovely one?
Lenox was simultaneously an absolute badass on her day “off,” but also beautifully vulnerable with Archer, as she opened up about her parents’ death. And then Archer got really, really lovely moments with Hannah, too, as he told her about his ex’s death and she made sure to be there for him so he wasn’t alone. There were some great character moments in this one. (I am with Archer, though: No berries in the Cap’n Crunch, please and thank you.)
WILD CARDS: Oh my God, the whole episode was charming, but Ricky’s obsession with Marc was absolutely perfect. (And relatable.) And the seemingly romantic dinner between Max and Ellis, which also included Ricky and Marc? And Ricky and Marc sharing a bed? I’m laughing even writing this. How do we get a buddy episode for Ricky and Marc in a (hopeful) season 3?
THE MASKED SINGER: Oh, Boy Band Night was entirely my thing. I’m really impressed the judges figured out Method Man so fast based on his breathing last week?! Like, wow.
CHICAGO FIRE: Man, I didn’t think about how crash calls will be impacting Pascal for a while, understandably. I’m glad people were aware he was not okay, but not overly pushy.
Okay, when I read the logline for this episode, I kind of feared that the show might try to give Stellaride a much older child to adopt—not that there is anything wrong with that in real life, it’s admirable as hell and so important; kids of a certain age are just often not written the best in the TV world. But now that we know Stella actually saved this kid’s life pre-51? Well done, writers, you have me invested in this, no matter which way it goes.
(So, how long do we think this “platonic” thing will last between Lizzy and Damon?)
THE FLOOR: Well, road trip was hard. There were so many directions that could have gone, and yet it was way harder than I even fathomed.
Unsurprisingly, I was good at nerdy characters. Eric, meanwhile, lost so much time not passing with Amy, but he got so lucky it didn’t cost him the game. And, hey, I’m happy that Brian won aviation; I’m rooting for him.
I don’t know what it says about me, but oh my God, billionaires was so hard, too. I did feel so awful for Eric, who did so well the whole show until that category and then lost the money at the very end. Alas.
(I screamed when Mary-Ellen missed Jackie Robinson.)
CHICAGO P.D.: Is it wrong I have tentative hope for Atwater and Val? They came together at a very specific time in their lives and are fighting similar demons, but they work. And they get each other, get their jobs. I hope they can somehow make it last. (But, also, eesh to poor Val and the trouble with her patient. Thank goodness it wasn’t worse, ultimately, but that has to impact how she handles everything moving forward. How terrifying)
An underrated moment of the hour for me: Burgess realizing how much this was impacting Atwater and trying to be there for/steady him as she saw he might cross a line. I love their friendship so much.
