THE ROOKIE: Deric Augustine Previews Miles’ Blast From the Past

On the Tuesday, April 8 episode of THE ROOKIE, Miles’ (Deric Augustine) past collides with his present.

“We know Miles played football, and he encounters an old friend he used to play football with—A.J., who’s now a star in the NFL,” Augustine tells Give Me My Remote in the video below. “Miles sees him pull up in this Lamborghini, and he recognizes him…A.J., he asks [Miles] to come to his party, and he does.”

“We [can] see their relationship, how close they were in college, on screen,” he continues. “We get to see some of the things that Miles could have probably had if he would have stayed the football route. But instead, he chose this, his own personal calling outside of football, which he falls in love with.”

The reflection on what could have been comes at a time when Miles has been struggling at points in Los Angeles—not having a permanent home, newly single, and still trying to find his footing as a rookie. 

“He’s kind of torn between the two [worlds and seeing] how my lifestyle could have been—not saying the police lifestyle is anything less than, but he had to work himself up again to be successful as a cop,” Augustine acknowledges. “So it’s like, okay, I started from the bottom again, when I was very, very successful as an NFL prospect. And now we see those two potential work [options]…butting heads.”
