The LAW & ORDER and LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS worlds collide on Thursday, April 17, when SVU’s Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) gets a mysterious call about the discovery of a corpse.

Though the 2-7 takes control over the case, Benson’s curiosity about why she was the one contacted is piqued. Her solution? She has her detective, Kate Silva (Juliana Aidén Martinez)—who worked in homicide prior to joining the SVU squad—partner up with L&O’s Vincent Riley (Reid Scott) to figure out who the murdered woman (whose body is left in a state that makes her unrecognizable) might be.

The episodes, “Play with Fire Part 1” and “Play with Fire Part 2,” mark the first official crossover between the mothership and SVU since the former was revived four seasons ago. (Both shows were previously a part of the franchise-wide crossover in 2022; Hargitay’s Benson has also appeared on the mothership a few times over the past four seasons, with a few L&O characters popping over on SVU, too.)

For Scott, who joined the series in season 23, his first crossover experience lived up to the hype. “I had a blast; I had an absolute blast,” Scott tells Give Me My Remote. “The LAW & ORDER crossover is kind of legendary at this point. It’s a very [Dick] Wolf-ian thing to do. I heard about it, I hadn’t been a part of one yet in my two seasons so far, so I was really excited I got a part to play in this one.”

In addition to the team-up with Silva, Scott also relished getting to work with Hargitay.

“I got to play with Mariska a lot and she is just a blast,” he gushes. “We had so much fun cracking each other up in between takes; she’s so funny. We just had a great time doing it.”

Things were a lot more serious on-screen. “It’s a big case,” Scott cautions. “It’s a big one, and a big surprise. But I will say when it comes to dead bodies—and we all know that every episode has a dead body—what our makeup and prop team did with this one is unbelievable.”

“Mariska and I were mesmerized staring at what they came up with,” he continues. “It was awesome. It was awesome. And it looks beautiful. I think it’s one of the most cinematic episodes of the entire season. It’s really going to stand out.”

As for Scott, who frequently appeared on streaming or cable series prior to joining LAW & ORDER, the crossover came at the end of his second season on the show—but his first full, non-strike-impacted season.

“I’ve had so much fun,” Scott says. “Even more than I thought. This job, it’s brought me home to New York. It’s reconnected me to the city in a way that I never thought possible, just by virtue of, like, we literally shoot in every single nook and cranny of New York City. It’s really wild.”

“I had not been part of a 22-episode season since I was about 25 years old, and it is a very specific skill set,” he continues. “It is a marathon in every sense of the word. I think what I’ve learned mostly is that I need to stretch more. I need to get more sleep. I should probably go back to yoga, take care of my body, because doing stunts three or four days a week on the freezing cold streets of New York City takes its toll. But it’s also incredibly satisfying, too.”

As the season winds down, “You do feel a real sense of triumph when you make it through 22 episodes like this,” he notes. “But it also leaves you where you really want to do more. It gets under your skin. I think at one point last season, when we were really in it, I called my wife back in Los Angeles and said, ‘I think my entire life right now is LAW & ORDER and sleep.’ And she’s like, ‘Yeah, that makes sense.’ That’s pretty much been true this season, too. But it’s also been so much fun.”
