About Last Night…FBI, THE ROOKIE, FBI: INTERNATIONAL, and More

THE ROOKIE – “Mad About Murder” – Tim receives a strange message, launching a larger investigation into the dark web. Meanwhile, Celina works to take down a popular podcast, and Miles helps update the department’s training videos. TUESDAY, APRIL 15 (9:00-10:01 p.m. EDT) on ABC. (Disney/Mike Taing)

Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!
FBI: It was a good case, but not exactly fun to watch.
The most interesting element of the hour for me, though, was Maggie figuring out how to let Joel in. He’s not exactly a civilian, but he’s not directly in her world either. I didn’t even think about how her recent undercover assignment might have impacted him. Maggie’s already lost a lot this year, so I’m glad she’s giving this a real try, though.
THE ROOKIE: This episode, as a whole, didn’t work for me.
The problem was I think there were a lot of good pieces/storylines. Lucy and Celina being drawn into a case because Celina was trying to stop her sister’s murder from being exploited was really good and important. (True crime is such a booming business, and the ethics behind it can be very, very, very murky.) I was also intrigued by Tim and the hacker stuff.
But the show tried to cram in so many things. (Did they kill off the hit man just so Bailey could get away with everything she did…?) And when that happens, it feels like nothing really gets the weight it should or deserves.
One thing I did love? Lopez and Bradford talk. And not just for the Chenford discussion (though, yes, that was fantastic and lovely)—I have just deeply missed their friendship. I love their connections with others, too, obviously, but I hope we get to see more of the Bropez friendship next season, please and thank you.
(Okay, and I have questions about the very obvious Amazon Prime product placement…)
FBI: INTERNATIONAL: As much as it sucks we’re losing this show soon, I am glad it feels like they were able to pivot some pieces to set up an endgame of sorts. I’m intrigued to see how this Raines versus Vo competition shakes out (or if neither will get the job or one will pivot elsewhere), and I love they’re being so great about it.
There’s no way the storyline with Wes’ bio dad is over, right…?
(And I will never not do a double take when someone says Agent Booth on this show. I covered BONES for too many years to think of anyone else as an Agent Booth.)
FBI: MOST WANTED: I love we’re getting more Hana and Barnes this season. Bittersweet now, but still lovely. And, man, Barnes is going to be a great boss.
The case worked well enough, too. Not one of their more sympathetic group of bad guys, obviously, but it kept me engaged.
