[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the first two episodes of LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME season 5.]

LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME’s Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) agreed to go undercover in the opening episode of season 5, “Lost Highway,” to try to stop an international smuggling ring, but things quickly got very dangerous: In an attempt to save a young girl, Bunny (Maggie Toomey), he went off-script and risked everything to get her back. Though Elliot was able to rescue Bunny, the victory was short-lived when the truck they were in was intentionally hit by a semi-truck and Elliot’s vehicle flipped.

In the second episode, “Dante’s Inferno”—which was co-written by Meloni—Elliot fought for his life in the aftermath of the traumatic brain injury he sustained during the crash. After regaining consciousness, Elliot was determined to help save Sad Eyes, one of the missing working girls he met while undercover. (Sadly, Bunny didn’t survive the crash.)

But between the nightmares he had every time he fell asleep (or passed out) and his own physical limitations, Elliot wasn’t exactly in his top form in the hour—and that’s what brought together a trio of his loved ones in a deleted scene from the episode.

“Stabler…did somethin’ silly, once again,” Danielle Moné Truitt, who plays Sergeant Ayanna Bell (AKA Elliot’s boss), tells Give Me My Remote in the video below of the scene that featured Bell, Mariska Hargitay’s Captain Olivia Benson, and Dean Norris’ Randall Stabler. “That brings us all together and we have to kind of make some decisions for him, and protect him in this situation.”

“The scene wasn’t even that long of a scene, but…our show is so funny because it’s, like, super serious, shoot ‘em up, bang, bang, whatever,” she continues. “But we have these…fun and funny moments. And even though it was a very serious situation that all three of us were in, it was a funny scene. All of us are kind of like, ‘What you want to do?’ ‘I don’t know. Why are you asking me? You do it.’ ‘No, I’m not doing it. You do it!’ Like, it was one of those situations.”

Though Elliot had a gaggle of his family who was at the hospital at various points, that scene was just “his big brother, his current boss, and his partner-slash-love of his life,” Truitt says. “All these people that mean a lot to him and that kind of have a influence over him, all being like, ‘Nah, I’m good. You do it.’”

And while the scene ultimately didn’t make the final cut, Truitt enjoyed filming it. “It’s always cool working with people that are not on the show all the time,” she says. “So whenever Mariska comes, we have a great time. I don’t know Dean very well, so this was one of my first times getting to work with him. He was really cool, a very nice guy.”

LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME, Season Premiere, Thursday, April 17, Peacock. (NBC will run a special airing of the season 5 premiere the same night at 10/9c.)
