After months spent working with CHICAGO P.D.’s Intelligence unit—and some vital words of encouragement from her colleagues—Kiana Cook (Toya Turner) is starting to feel at home with her new team.

“Something that’s really cool that happens [in the Wednesday, April 23 episode, ‘Name Image Likeness’] for her is she kind of starts finding her groove, finding her voice again,” Turner tells Give Me My Remote. “I think because she had a brick put on her before—and this was a team that she probably wouldn’t have been on if it wasn’t for them welcoming her, like that—there was this hesitance a little bit, at first, to be vocal. Kind of like almost going along and to get along, a little bit.”

“But I think there’s something that happens in this episode where she kind of starts speaking up for herself and showing her morals and stuff like that,” she continues. “So I think that’s really fun.”

In the hour, Cook realizes Ruby, a woman they meet while investigating a robbery-homicide, might be useful as a CI to help apprehend their suspect.

“I think she sees something in Ruby,” Turner previews. “She sees that she’s quick, she’s fast, she’s smart. And regardless of what type of situation she’s in, or profession she’s in, [Cook]’s just like, ‘Yo, I can give you a chance. I can give you an opportunity to just take a different route and use what you have a different way.’”

Though this is a first for Cook, it might not be as big of a turning point as some of her other milestones since she joined the team. “I personally just think whatever she needs to do to get the job done is what she’s gonna do,” Turner says. “I think it’s a great thing that she’s doing this thing, but I don’t think she’s really, really excited to have a CI. I think she’s just like, ’Yo, why don’t we just do this?’ I don’t think she’s even thinking about it like, ‘Oh, this is a little another notch under my belt that I get to do.’”

“I think when she went undercover, she was like, ‘Oh, snap, I’m going undercover,’” she continues. “There was a little bit more excitement for that than, ‘Oh, I’m getting a CI.’ I think she’s just doing it because she feels like that’s what’s going to get it done to solve the case.”

CHICAGO P.D., Wednesdays, 10/9c, NBC
