THE ROOKIE’s Patrick Keleher Previews Seth’s Return to the LAPD: ‘He’s Nervous’

THE ROOKIE’s Seth (Patrick Keleher) returns on the Tuesday, April 29 episode of the ABC drama…but he doesn’t exactly have any allies in his corner. (The episode will air at a special 10/9c time slot due to an ABC News special pre-empting the lineup.)

“He’s nervous,” Keleher tells Give Me My Remote in the video below of his character’s mindset.

Though Seth was trained by Lucy his first go-round, this time he’s assigned to Nolan (Nathan Fillion), who makes it clear there will be absolutely no wiggle room for the rookie to pull anything sketchy. (Seth was originally bounced from the rookie program after being accused of numerous lies, including faking cancer. When Seth refused to take a test to verify his current medical condition, it led to his automatic dismissal from the LAPD.)

“That’s pretty tough to be sitting down with Nolan,” Keleher notes. “I think he had a little bit more slack with Lucy. But now there’s one mission here: It’s like they’re trying to get him fired, [which is] keeping him in the straight and narrow. But he’s definitely very nervous.”

With Seth determined to make it work this time with the LAPD, how does he actually plan to win back the trust of his former colleagues?

“I don’t think he knows,” Keleher admits. “I think that’s one of the challenges that he has. He’s trying to figure that out himself. You’re gonna see his integration into the department, and you’re going to see what happens.” 

“It’s pretty tough, and he gets pretty crushed,” he continues. “We all know liars, and we all know our relationships with them. How do they come back into your life? And what are the second chances? I think it takes time. And I hope it doesn’t take too many seasons, if there even is that [chance to win them back], you know?”
