ELEMENTARY to End with Season 7

ELEMENTARY is ending with its upcoming seventh season, Deadline reports. (A premiere date for its return has yet to be announced.)

The series follows a modern take on Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Dr. Joan Watson (Lucy Liu), who initially were (respectively) a recovering addict/sober companion, but have evolved to a full-on partnership.

“Something that I knew I wanted to do was move forward in time a bit with the characters by the very end,” ELEMENTARY creator Rob Doherty told Deadline about the final season. “[In the books] there was a period when Sherlock and Watson were not together, they went down very different paths, and their lives were very different from having been apart. We felt that would be appropriate for our show. A lot was season 7 working towards that, how can we tell a larger story that would allow us to devise a finale that sets in not so distant future.”

The series—which just wrapped filming—will end its run with 154 episodes. The drama co-stars Aidan Quinn, Jon Michael Hill, and Desmond Harrington.
