Fox at TCA: Live-Blog

New Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier is on hand to speak with press at the Television Critics Association. Follow along for a live-blog of what he has to say…

11:02 AM: Starting off with a Fox sizzle reel with a mashup of the show clips to “Let’s Go Crazy.”

11:05 AM: Collier comes out in a Hippo mask from THE MASKED SINGER…wait, nope, it’s BREAKING BAD/BETTER CALL SAUL’s Jonathan Banks, who is here to help his old buddy Collier. (The duo worked together on AMC.)

11:07 AM: Collier says a lot of things look crazy, but often that’s what pays off. He notes it might look crazy to scale down while everyone else is amping up, but he believe it’ll be a “risk-welcoming” era.

11:09 AM: Collier says the company is a “start-up company,” albeit not one in the traditional sense. He says the network will continue to be bold and take big risks.

11:15 AM: THE SIMPSONS has been renewed for seasons 31 and 32.

11:17 AM: Collier says they’re doing everything possible to prove to the creative community that they’re in still looking stay relevant. “Fox has proven its crazy bets are anything but.”

11:18 AM: “My heart goes out to Jussie and everyone involved,” Collier says. He can’t say much because of the ongoing criminal investigation, and isn’t yet ready to announce whether the show will return.

11:20 AM: Collier wrote letters to the RENT cast and wrote “break a leg” the Friday before the show…he rewrote them on Sunday. He says he sent a note to the Fox bosses on Saturday before the injury that everyone would have been proud of. He says it would have been impractical to have understudies. “I’m really proud of what we accomplished.”

11:22 AM: “I think it’s a responsibility to bring them back so [everyone] feels great when we do,” Collier says of a potential 24 reboot (or other franchises).

11:24 AM: “We take seriously any time Ryan Murphy wants to build something,” Collier says of SCREAM QUEENS potentially be revived. But no plans right now.

11:27 AM: Fox may have a studio-like structure, especially with things like SIDECAR, their new “Content Development Accelerator.”

11:29 AM: WWE will be live on Friday nights.

11:30 AM: “I think [LETHAL WEAPON] has hit its stride well,” Collier says. He said the network and studio are in lockstep about its creativity/future, but didn’t answer whether Damon Wayans Sr. will continue with the show if it continues on.

11:31 AM: Collier sticks with the notion it would have been difficult to sustain understudies on RENT. He says the show isn’t broad, but the team before him that greenlit it was looking to tell an important story.

11:34 AM: Collier once again doesn’t exactly answer whether Wayans Sr. will stick with the show, just saying the producers and studios are in lockstep.

11:35 AM: The news division and the entertainment are run separately, Collier notes, and has yet to have a crossover with his job.

11:38 AM: “After 30 years you get two weeks off,” Collier jokes of THE SIMPSONS. He notes FAMILY GUY and THE SIMPSONS franchises are “remarkable.”

11:40 AM: “The fun of THE MASKED SINGER…it’s a format the team is looking at,” Collier says. He says it looks really easy when you’re doing well, but the team is doing a lot of work. Fox is having convos with the producers about what the show is and how it can grow.

11:42 AM: They’re looking to use their live shows (sports, etc.) to help launch scripted shows.
