Perhaps My Most Important Post..Ever

June 9, 2006 by

I often get emails from people saying that they really enjoy GiveMeMyRemote.com, and want to know how they can help support the site. Well, here’s your chance. My friend Dan (aka DuckyxDale) is raising money for HIV/AIDS prevention and education by trekking 275+ miles on a tricycle. Ok, maybe not a tricycle, but those pics would be great, wouldn’t they? Seriously though, he is biking from Gettysburg to Manhattan for the AIDS Ride 2006.
PLEASE take the time to read the entire post below, and if you have the means to contribute, I ask that you please do so. All the necessary links are at the bottom of the post, and you can also contribute by clicking on the callout to the right of this post. Come on GMMRers, I know we can make a difference!!!

Alright GMMR readers, you’ve probably seen me on here as duckyxdale. GMMR is letting me take up some space to hit her readers up for donations! On September 15th I will begin a three day, 275+ mile bike ride from Gettysburg National Park to Manhattan and I hope to raise $3,500 for The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center, a NYC based non-profit organization dedicated to HIV/AIDS awareness, education, and prevention but also to programs, counseling, and care for those living with or affected by the disease. The ride is called Braking The Cycle.

I have participated in 3 AIDS Rides since 2002 and this will be my 4th. In that time I’ve raised almost $9,000 and have rode thousands of miles on my damn bike. From NYC to Boston; From Border to Border the whole state of Massachusetts; From Woods to Witches (Berkshires to Salem) yours truly has suffered through sweltering heat, blistering sun, torrential rains, and even a tornado (2004) in hopes of raising money and awareness for HIV/AIDS prevention and education.

AIDS is 25 years old this year. Not an anniversary you celebrate with diamonds or copies of Arrested Development on dvd but an anniversary that reminds us that this disease still has no cure. That this disease is still spreading. That this disease is not getting the federal and local funds necessary to continue research and education in communities which need it the most. By supporting me and sponsoring me on this ride you can help make sure this 25th year is a year to remember; a year you did something!

Head on over to my site and read up on the ride, the route, The Center, AIDS information as well as my ride blog which will continue to grow as I push harder to train, as I seek out a new bike for the cheapest price possible, and as funds start coming in!

Please forward this on to any of your fellow tv fans, fellow activists, fans of duckyxdale, and fans of The Amazing Race! Oh yes my friends, you didn’t think I’d go without a TV tie-in! Another rider on Braking The Cycle is none other than Amazing Race 4 winner Chip Arndt (formerly of Reichen and Chip). I hope to score an interview while riding. Hey in 2004 I mastered peeing while seated and riding so anything is possible!

That’s 3 days – 100 miles a day – 8 hours a day – And TAR Winner Chip… Salada time on a bike folks and you can help make it more enjoyable! If you love GMMR’s site and you don’t want her to come to your house personally and beat each one of you, I’d like to urge you to read up on my ride and ride history as well as consider donating!

Just this week people have given almost $2000 to rent a Ferris Wheel to cart off to Dawn Ostroff’s house in protest of Everwood being canceled… Not that it isn’t an amazing gesture, but this is a legit charity with human lives at risk… I think you can swing this for a great cause what do you say?

If you can donate any amount I would appreciate it! If you can donate $25, $50, $100 or more you will receive some duckyxdale swag! When you donate, please remember to select my information “Dan McCallum – #59”!
