About Last Night…THE FLASH and THE VOICE
May 8, 2019 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!
THE FLASH: I wish I felt more invested in the Big Bad arc this season. Cicada II isn’t compelling me the way the original did. I’m glad Nora is getting along better with her parents, but it still feels a bit unearned after last week’s fake-out.
THE VOICE: Oy, what a mess. And while I’ve liked Kim in the past, her “sing for your life” performance was bad. As was Mari’s. (Though the latter may have had technical issues.) I don’t necessarily know if LB should have moved forward (he was one of the better ones of Monday night), but he was the only one who really sounded good on Tuesday.
I just can’t imagine this format sticks as is next season. It sounded good on paper, but it’s led to an insane power imbalance—which would be fine if the most talented contestants were still in play. They aren’t. (There are a handful who are among the best. But this feels like the weakest overall top 8, perhaps ever.) It’s going to be a pretty painful lead-up to the finale.
