July 26, 2019 by Marisa Roffman
The first power sequel, POWER BOOK II: GHOST, has found its star: Mary J. Blige.
“We have alluded previously to various spin-offs, prequels and other expansions of the POWER Universe,” series creator Courtney A. Kemp said during the show’s TCA panel. “Today we are pleased to announce that we are in pre-production on the first of what we know will be a collection of series inspired by the world of POWER. POWER BOOK II: GHOST will continue the journey of some of POWER’s most controversial characters.”
Executive producer/former co-star Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson officially announced that Mary J. Blige was going to be their new lead. Blige, who shared she had been a fan of the mothership since the show began, was warmly greeted by the actors who were paneling the drama’s final season.
Additionally, POWER’s final season will be split into two parts: the first 10 episodes will air when the show returns on Sunday, August 25th. The second part, featuring five episodes, will debut January 2020.
