About Last Night…THE CONNERS, FBI, EMERGENCE, and More
September 25, 2019 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!
THE VOICE: There have been a number of good auditions, but I’m still waiting for one to absolutely blow me away.
I do find the swap in format of auditions to be an intriguing twist. Obviously some of the backstories are being told prior to people stepping on stage, but going into things “blind” like the coaches more regularly for others adds to the game
THE CONNERS: I’m guessing there are contractual reasons why, but I was surprised Becky didn’t name her daughter more directly after her recently-dead mother.
Johnny Galecki clearly doesn’t need a full-time gig on this show (or any other), but it feels like it’s going to be a delicate balance to try and play out some of the affair if one of the actors isn’t regularly available.
FBI: Admittedly, the 9/11 lie (then not-lie) threw me, but I really enjoyed Alana De La Garza and John Boyd joining the show. There is something to be said about actors with procedural experience jumping into an established show and just naturally fitting in. I’m looking forward to seeing more of the team working together…even though Isobel and OA may be butting heads.
EMERGENCE: I enjoyed the chemistry of the ensemble, and I’m intrigued by the mystery. The showrunners say they have a lot planned out, so I’m hoping things pay off and ABC will give them time to grow. (Or enough of a heads up if things won’t be continuing on.) It was a very pilot-y pilot (which it needed to be), so I’m really curious what episode 2 of the show will look like.
