CHICAGO P.D. Boss on the Reveal of Kelton’s Killer

[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the CHICAGO P.D. season premiere “Doubt.”]

CHICAGO P.D. wasted no time in solving the “Who killed Kelton?” mystery: it was (a scorned) Kate Brennan (Anne Heche).

“She just felt like somebody that if you’re just analyzing the Brian Kelton character and all the people he manipulated and/or wronged, [it would be] the dutiful soldier that put her career on the line for the guy,” CHICAGO P.D. boss Rick Eid says. “The fact that if he turned his back on her, that felt like an honest and emotional place for Brennan to be and to want to exact revenge. ‘Really? I helped you become mayor, and you turn your back on me. Not okay.’”

With that tied up, the hour’s other big mystery was where the heck Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) was. Though he was not seen onscreen, Voight (Jason Beghe) revealed Dawson was off getting treatment post-relapsing.

Though Seda is no longer with the series, “the door’s always open to someone like Jon to return,” Eid says. “Everybody around here loves him and thinks he did great work. Who knows how that will all play out? But the door is definitely open.”
