SUPERNATURAL: Jensen Ackles Shares His Influence on the Final Season

As SUPERNATURAL heads into its 15th—and final—season, the series has a lot already planned. After all, the way it wraps up has already been plotted (and run by original series stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki). But the writers are leaving room for the actors to weigh in on some things along the way.

“Not necessarily what we want to do, as opposed to who we want to see,” Ackles explains in the video below. “There was certainly a push from Jared and I that we wanted to bring some familiar faces back.”

While part of the idea of the idea of returning faces is baked into the premise of the final season—as the team will have to confront and contain the past villains they thought they were rid of—Ackles was able to directly influence the episode he directed (which will air later in the season). After reading the original script, he realized they could shift things and bring someone in for a one-scene cameo.

“It’s great from our perspective, because we get to see somebody that we are fans of their work on our show,” he says. “And from a fan perspective—there are fan-favorite characters out there; we’ve had a lot of them over the years. To get to see those familiar faces come back through the doors, it’s also a nice tip of the hat to all the people that helped get us to where we are today.”
