Looking Back at 15 Years of THE OFFICE Coverage
March 24, 2020 by Marisa Roffman
On Thursday, March 24, 2005, NBC’s take on THE OFFICE debuted. The first season was short—just six episodes—but by season 2, it was clear it was one of the very best shows on television.
In honor of the show’s 15th anniversary, we’re looking back at old coverage of the series…
1) GMMR founder Kath Skerry’s first post requesting people watch the show.
2) The first-ever joint interview with Jenna Fisher and John Krasinski! — “I can’t give the writers enough credit for how incredibly realistic they have been with this storyline,” Krasinski said at the time. “It’s an incredibly difficult thing to balance and they have dealt with it with such care and subtlety it’s been amazing. And I think the reason for seeing more and more of the relationship on screen is that the documentary film crew in the show are now aware of the love interest and therefore paying more attention with the cameras.”
“I’m rooting for them to get together just like everyone else,” Fisher added. “But I try to be patient. I want it to be realistic which means I think it will take awhile.”
3) 5 questions with B.J. Novak.
4) These incredible THE OFFICE cartoons.
5) A two-part chat with David Denman
6) Kath’s BTS take on the filming of “Women’s Appreciation.” — “In the scene, where Michael is talking to Dwight about respecting women, Steve Carell had the line ‘RESPECT, find out what it means to me.’ They did the scene so many times and Steve never did the same take twice. Each time he who have a new and different way of spelling “respect.'”
7) An ode to Jim and Pam on the eve of their wedding.
8) Lessons learned from THE OFFICE.
9) An extensive timeline of Michael and Toby’s hatred. — “This is an environment of welcoming and you should just get the hell out of here.”
10) A few of Jim’s pranks on Dwight.
11) Greg Daniels and Mindy Kaling on Steve Carell’s prolonged exit speculation.
12) THE OFFICE cast on the addition of Robert California. — “The energy that he brings is so different than anything we’ve had on the show before and I think that that is going to be really exciting for people to see the characters that they’ve grown to know and hopefully love, that we see them interact with this totally different energy that will bring,” Brian Baumgartner said. “It’s exciting and I feel like we all feel younger. Like new kids again launching a new show and it’s really exciting.”
13) Josh Groban on how Twitter brought him to the show.
14) Greg Daniels, John Krasinski, and Jenna Fisher on Pam and Jim’s marriage difficulties. — “For the first time in Jim and Pam’s relationship, something is changing in a pretty major way,” Fisher said. “You know, people get laid off or people get new jobs or somebody has to work out of town or you have a surprise baby. There’s all these things that happen in a marriage, curve balls, and so far Jim and Pam haven’t really had one, and this year they do.”
15) The cast on filming the final scenes of the series.
