Report: Christopher Meloni to Reprise Elliot Stabler Role in New NBC Series

The Dick Wolf universe is expanding on NBC with one heck of a twist: Christopher Meloni is reprising his LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT character Elliot Stabler in a new series, Deadline reports.

According to Deadline, NBC has ordered 13 episodes of the drama, which will follow an NYPD organized crime unit led by Stabler. Former CHICAGO P.D. showrunner Matt Olmstead  will reportedly showrun the new series.

Meloni, who launched SVU with Mariska Hargitay (whose Benson now runs SVU), left the drama in season 12, after he was unable to come to terms with a new contract. Stabler, at the time, put in his papers (off-screen), and left the NYPD.

LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT was recently renewed for a bonkers three seasons, which will bring its order up to (at least) 24 seasons. It recently became the longest-running primetime drama series. Wolf also had his CHICAGO trio (MED, FIRE, P.D.) ordered for three additional seasons. (He also has the FBI franchise, with the mothership and MOST WANTED on CBS.)
