LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Bosses Tease Sara’s Disappearance and the New Addition to the Team

Where in the universe is LEGENDS OF TOMORROW’s Sara Lance?
At the end of season 5, Sara was abducted by aliens and when the show returns in 2021, the Legends will have to figure out who has her and where the heck she is.
“With Sara away, the kids kind of go crazy” executive producer Grainne Godfree teased during the show’s DC Fandome panel. “I feel like Sara is kind of one of the grounding influences on the show…[and] everyone’s going a little bonkers in her absence. So we really look at this season in terms of what would it do to people to have Sara missing.”
“Ava, obviously, would be a worthy replacement, but she obviously takes Sara’s absence the hardest,” executive producer Phil Klemmer added. “And she starts to get a little bit frayed around the edges as well. So it leaves a bit of a power vacuum, which unlikely people have to step up to fill.”
But as the team is grappling with the loss of Sara, the series will also be showcasing what she’s going through.
“We’re not losing Sara from the story,” executive producer Keto Shimizu promised. “We will be tracking her adventure, even as she is separated from the team.”
Though aliens have long been a part of the ARROWverse—heck, Supergirl and Superman are technically aliens—LEGENDS will have a different take on things.
“Every season we go bigger and zanier, which is also interesting this season with trying to be safe and film during possible quarantine,” Godfree noted. “But I feel like if any show can do it, [it’s] LEGENDS.”
“SUPERGIRL does their own version of aliens and we’re really trying to make it feel and look different,” Shimizu added. “We’re really putting our own stamp on it.”
As the team handles the new curveball in their lives, they’ll also have to adjust to a new team member, Esperanza “Spooner” Cruz, played by CHICAGO P.D. vet Lisseth Chavez.
“She is a young Latinx woman from Texas, who was kidnapped by aliens and has got a thirst for vengeance,” Godfree teased. “She’s going to come up on the ship and she’s not going to be the lovable losers that we normally have. She’s going to be someone who is pretty tough and gives it to the other legends…I think it’s going to throw them off their feet a little bit.“
