Who Got Voted Off SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE?

UPDATE: Click here to find out who went home on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE (July 8th)

PREVIOUS POST

Normally I do a big live blog for the Thursday night SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE results show.  Sadly it wasn’t in the cards tonight.  But next week…game on.  I hope you’ll all make plans to come join me at 9pm so we can watch the results together.

But if you ended up on this post, you are probably looking to either find out who went home on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE tonight, or discuss the ousting itself.

SYTYCD Podcast…

But before we get to the results, I just wanted to let you all know that the first SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE edition of The TV Talk Podcast with GMMR & Ducky will be published tomorrow.  Dan and I review last night’s performances and share our reaction to tonight’s elimination.  If you’ve never listened to The TV Talk Podcast before, then tune in tomorrow. You can listen to past TV Talk Podcasts as well as old episodes of our special SYTYCD podcasts at http://www.TheTVTalkPodcast.com.

Check back very soon as the podcast is in the process of being posted.

If you are a regular listener then you know it’s been a while.  Our love for SYTYCD brough us back (that and the fact that we actually both find the time to get together).  We’re excited to have new listeners this season!

Save the Dancers.  Save the World.

Tonight’s group routine was choreographed by Shane Sparks. Welcome back Sparksy!!  I’m not exactly sure what the concept was but it seemed like futuristic hip hoppers touched down on Earth to save some homeless people. Ok, that probably was way off, but who cares- it was good. The dance was pretty sassy, but it was almost ruined (once again) by the horrendous camera work. Just awful.

The performance seemed to highlight Philip and Tony – both who were incredible showcasing their unique talent.  And for some reason, it seemed that Caitlyn had a big part to play.  Or perhaps the cameraman just had a swerve on for her.  I really couldn’t tell.  A good way to start off the show.

The Bottom Three…

In small groups the couples took the stage and waited to hear their fate from Cat Deeley. Would they be safe, or would they be one of three groups who would need to dance for their lives in order to stick around another week?

The first couple in the bottom three was Paris & Tony.  Joining them was Auska & Vitolio and Karla & Jonathan.

Dance For Your Life…

Each dancer, performing an individual solo, has the chance to impress the judges and stay in the competition.  Although it’s an individual performance, in these early weeks, it’s important that both partners perform well as the judges will be hesitant to split up two couples and form a new union with their remaining partners.

  • Paris – Her solo was a mix of ballet and contemporary, but on the whole not very impressive. Almost boring.
  • Tony – Tony went with an old school Hip Hop dance which was not very impressive at all. Borderline terrible. Uh Oh.
  • Auska – I can’t say that I was all that impressed. I like a little more dancing from my Vegas showgirls.  But that’s just me.
  • Vitolio – That’s how you dance for your life my friends.  This guy has amazing power and strength.  And those vertical leaps?!  Insanity!
  • Karla – Lots of running, leaping and posing.  Again, not that impressive.  But she was still better than Paris so I think that’s going to save her tonight.
  • Jonathan – Other than some impressive flipping, I didn’t think this solo was much of anything either.  But again, better than Tony.

Wondering if these dancers have ever seen the show before? They need to step up their solos for future showdowns.

The judges have come to a decision.

Going Home Tonight Are…

Tony Bellissimo & Paris Torres
Tony Bellisimo & Paris Torres

Paris Torres & Tony Bellisimo. It’s so hard to say goodbye to someone so early because these dancers really haven’t had the opportunity to shine.  It’s almost unfair. But I do think that the judges made the right choice.  I might have kept Paris over Auska, but given the circumstances, it made sense for Paris and Tony to leave together.

With tonight goes my potential Season 5 SYTYCD boyfriend.  Bye Tony. Our relationship might have been short-lived but it was special. Here’s to hoping Jason Glover steps it up. I’d like a BF that’s going to stick around for some time.

What did you think of tonight’s eliminations?  Did the right people go home? Were you surprised by the bottom three couples? Talk to me.

Based on solos, I would have sent Auska home. Based on auditions, I would have sent Paris home. Tough call, and I wouldn’t be that sad to have seen either one of them go home. Adam Shankman just tweeted that the dancers get no help with their solos, and you could see that in their solos, just like you could in Tony’s.

I think it was a favor to Tony that he was sent home. Bravo, judges.

I am not terribly disappointed but sort of wish it had been Asuka on the girl’s side, I have an active dislike of her. Her preening after her solo (for pervy Nigel) just about made me lose my Doritos. Not a fan.

I agree with Lisa…there is just something about Asuka that rubs me the wrong way. I would have preferred that she go home…I’m guessing next week.

I knew the night they were doing their dances that it would probably be Paris & Tony going home, and I even predicted who would be in the bottom three. The season is starting out fabulous so far, though!

I think that people are rubbed the wrong way by Asuka is because she has a “flawlessness” about her. It is hard to find vulnerability in her personality. However, that has nothing to do with her dancing, and her solo was very strong. She gave so much of herself. The problem is, we don’t FEEL her. She seems porcelain to us. Whereas her partner, is the exact opposite. He is full of life, full of feeling, and hopefully she will be influenced by his extraordinary spirit! I hope she has a chance to grow emotionally on the show. She deserves it. I think the reason Paris went home was because her chin implant is enormous. I think subconsciously America just couldn’t jive with a girl whose chin implant makes her look like Jay Leno. I have nothing against plastic surgery, don’t get me wrong. But that surgeon should be fired.

watched the results this morning with the girls. I am so excited we found a show that appeals to a 7 mos old, a 2 year old and a thirtysomething. i think they made the right call. Megan was like “oooooh, she is beautiful” when cat deeley came out. normal for mom and daughter to have girl crushes on the same woman???

I wasn’t really attached to any of the dancers in the bottom 3, but I was glad to see Vitolio stay, and Karla. I dug the cha-cha she and Jonathan did, so I thought they both deserved to stay.

I think Tony was definitely the right choice to go home, based on his failure to put anything exciting into a dance of his own genre. He really needed to impress in his solo and all he did was dance around.

Looking forward to next week, given the performances of Top 20 night. I think we’ll see some great dancing! Also looking forward to the SYTYCD podcast, one of my favorite parts of the SYTYCD season.

Yes, not much else to add to the comments about the bottom three. I knew that the first 3 couples that they brought out would all be safe, though.
I’m so happy that Evan is getting such a great response!
I really like Vitolio! I agree that he needs to rub off some of his personality onto his partner!
I like Brandon, too! He did a great character during his Foxtrot and made it fun to watch.
I didn’t care for the Bollywood much after seeing how great the routine was that Josh and Katee got to do.
It seems like whenever NappyTabs is doing choreography, they do one “lyrical” with characters and then a traditional hip hop. The poor couple who has to do the traditional hip hop is always the one I hate. It’s so boring! I loved the routine with the fighting couple who make up and spoon. There’s no comparison!
Too bad for Tony and Paris. Tony looked so pissed. Nigel really lays into them when he’s giving the results. It’s like he turns into “Daddy Nigel”.

    CAN’T WAIT ‘TIL NEXT WEEK!
