Let’s talk about Thursday night’s TV!

THE VOICE Holiday Special: It was a cute hour. It’s kind of crazy this was the show’s first holiday special, but it also meant they had 18 seasons worth of material to choose from.

GREY’S ANATOMY: Anyone else immediately want to watch GREY’S season 1 after every episode this season?

In some ways it was brilliant of ABC to hype up the “who appears next?” element, and I was worried it wouldn’t hit as hard as the surprise Derek reveal. But, nope, started crying when George said “Mer.”

I’m truly curious how long the show can play this thread. If every single episode is someone from Meredith’s past, does it start to lose its effectiveness? But, at the same time, Meredith has lost so many people she cares about, they really could do a new person every episode or so and probably not run out this season. (The shot of Bailey, George, Meredith, and Richard on the beach…my heart.)

LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT: The season has just started, but this was easily my favorite installment of the year so far.

It’s interesting, because on a technical level I could say, yes, this was the first episode they filmed back in production, and you can see the steps they took to limit the scope of how far they left their main areas. But those restrictions actually helped the episode, making it feel quasi-claustrophobic at times, especially as the tension increased—just like this endless quarantine itself. It felt like a really good use of resources and a way to use this weird time to make an effectively stressful episode.

MOM: Bonnie and Adam are the adults in the room. Anyone else…terrified?! Yeah, Jill and Andy are taking a break—which really bums me out, honestly; I do enjoy them a lot—but their advice was actually shockingly good?

A MILLION LITTLE THINGS: I’m finding so much comfort in this show this year. The characters’ love for each other is so pure and feels like a warm, snug sweater, and I just feel peaceful watching the show.

Eddie being stuck on the chair and Gary helping him out by pretending to spill a glass of water on him absolutely broke my freaking heart. I get why Eddie is worried about needing help, but I’m glad he’s taking steps forward so he can actually start to figure out how to adjust to his new normal. And everyone should have a friend like Gary.

(The Maroon 5 joke and then the “Give a Little More” NEEDLE DROP LATER made me laugh harder than I have in a bit. This show…)
