SUPERSTORE, MOM, CLARICE

“The Silence Is Over”– CLARICE, from acclaimed executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet, and starring Rebecca Breeds (“Pretty Little Liars”) in the title role, is a deep dive into the untold personal story of FBI Agent Clarice Starling as she returns to the field in 1993, one year after the events of “The Silence of the Lambs.” Brilliant and vulnerable, Clarice’s bravery gives her an inner light that draws monsters and madmen to her. However, her complex psychological makeup that comes from a challenging childhood empowers her to begin to find her voice while working in a man’s world, as well as escape the family secrets that have haunted her throughout her life. Series premieres Thurs. Feb. 11 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Pictured Rebecca Breeds as Clarice Starling Photo: Brooke Palmer ©2020 CBS Broadcasting Inc. Let’s talk about Thursday night’s TV!

WALKER: Highlight of the episode was Walker so thoroughly having Micki’s back. I’m still significantly more invested in Walker’s home life, but this was a good step forward.

CELEBRITY WHEEL OF FORTUNE: Oh man, I was frustrated for Paul Reubens and Nicole Byer not getting their final puzzles. (I got Nicole’s instantly, but it took me a few seconds to figure out the “dark” in “dark chocolate.) But, oh my God, Joel being gifted a “Bankruptcy” spot was hilarious.

SUPERSTORE: Oh my God, of course Cheyenne and Mateo would get so consumed by their feud getting attention that it looped back around to them working together to keep that attention on them.

I was worried about how far they might go with the conspiracy storyline—especially given what’s going on at the world at any given moment—but I thought they handled it really well. (Because, yeah, Marcus would absolutely be all-in on conspiracies and Sandra would be likely to fall into that. And, well, Glenn is Glenn.)

But did I also get a little emotional over Jonah and Garrett’s friendship? You bet. I’m going to miss their weird friendship. (For more on the episode, star/writer Colton Dunn broke down the episode.)

MOM: I’m really glad the show brought back the fact that Adam bought the bar without telling Bonnie. Him buying the RV would have been amusing, but this is a pattern of him making huge life decisions—at least re: money—and that really isn’t okay. (But Bonnie telling Adam he had three strikes to work with, him asking if it worked both ways, and her quickly dropping it amused me.)

THE CHASE: Man, those three contestants got lucky. Beating Ken by one question was a close, close, close call.

CLARICE: I really didn’t know how I’d react to the show since I haven’t seen SILENCE OF THE LAMBS—I know, I know—but I enjoyed the pilot a lot. (In this case, I don’t know if going in relatively blind, apart from the many, many references that have made their way into pop culture, helped.)

I wonder how the stakes will be able to compare week-to-week. I thought the premiere was gorgeous and this was a bigger case. Will it be more serialized, with one case taking center stage? Or will they have to find ways for her to work smaller, more mundane things?
