NEW AMSTERDAM’s Jocko Sims on Reynolds’ Return: ‘No One’s Safe’

With NEW AMSTERDAM’s Kapoor (Anupam Kher) life on the line, Reynolds (Jocko Sims) returns to New York on the Tuesday, March 9 episode, “Essential Workers.”

“I will say whether or not something happens [with Kapoor]…this season, no character, in general, is safe,” Sims says in the video below. “We’re basing our show in as much reality as possible. The reality is people could die. People could leave, like Reynolds did. And that’s the case. No’s one safe, that’s all I can say about that. So expect the unexpected.”

After spending so much time away from his friends, Reynolds doesn’t exactly have time to properly catch up before he has to jump into the thick of things to try and help.

“Just good old fashioned TV drama when it comes to being thrust into a situation—there’s very little time in the writing for, ‘How you been?'” Sims notes. “So very little reunion time. But what I do like is that you get to see a little bit of the camaraderie and the brotherhood between Max and Reynolds, in this season in general. Whether Reynolds is in San Fran or there on the ground in New Amsterdam, you’re going to be able to see a little bit more of how close these two guys have become, which is great. I think it’s important for characters to always be evolving, relationships to be evolving.”

And what about his reunion with his ex, Bloom (Janet Montgomery)? “Hey, that might that might be a thing,” he teases. “Who knows?”

The medical drama will, however, address how Reynolds’ experience with the pandemic has varied from his former colleagues.

“Reynolds experience with COVID was quite different,” Sims notes. “Many more deaths happened at New Amsterdam than at Reynolds’ hospital. He will have to grapple with that reality, seeing that he kind of had a little bit of an easy road, compared to his old family there who just went through hell and back and hell and back again.”
