About Last Night…LEGENDS OF TOMORROW, ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY PLAYLIST, THE ROOKIE, and More

Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!
AMERICAN IDOL: I’m surprised AMERICAN IDOL didn’t bring in someone else after Caleb Kennedy dropped out, but in some ways it worked better to only have four contestants competing for the three spots, because until the last moment, I wasn’t sure who would make it through. Which does make the finale interesting—who the heck is going to win?
THE SIMPSONS: It’s honestly crazy to realize how little we DO know about Abe post-army and pre-series? He would have been a pretty lousy spy, given the Mona of it all, but there are huge gaps in his history.
THE EQUALIZER: Okay, we all need a Dua Lipa dance party now and then.
I’m glad Dante didn’t take Robyn in, but I’m so curious how the show is going to balance this going forward. Him asking to be taken off the pursuit of her makes sense, but if she keeps reaching out to help him/get his assistance, how long can that last? I’m really intrigued what shakeups the finale has in store.
LEGENDS OF TOMORROW: Wait, when did Zari and Constantine become so adorable?! This was such a fun episode to balance the interpersonal drama with the absolutely ridiculous. (It feels weird to say that when last week was about special sauce being alien goo, but somehow this episode felt even more bonkers.)
Also, Rory squishing the tiny, cute alien BROKE MY HEART, WTF, show.
THE GREAT NORTH: With anyone else, a TITANIC-themed wedding would be a horrifying omen, but Wolf and Honeybee made it charming AF. (I am glad Wolf’s mom didn’t show up, though, because he deserved better than that.)
BOB’S BURGERS: Linda getting so invested in the trash can decorating was perfectly in-character and adorable.
ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY PLAYLIST: WELL, OKAY THEN. The last couple of episodes were by far the best of the season, and I’m intrigued and hopeful about the Max twist. (But, also, show, this can’t mean we don’t get Skylar Astin singing, right?) With this move, I would also guess—if the show comes back—they’ll have to dig into why Zoey has her powers, and I really, really, really hope they have a solid blueprint to avoid things from getting messy and contradictory.
FAMILY GUY: Outside of the baffling Quagmire-9/11 joke, it was a cute episode. (Also, RIP THE CLEVELAND SHOW.)
THE ROOKIE: I’ve spent all season so worried something would happen to Angela and the baby that it didn’t really dawn on me they’d get all the way to the wedding before things blew up. And as bad as the kidnapping was, when La Fiera escaped, I was definitely trying to mentally prepare myself for a wedding day shooting, with Wesley being taken out—NOT THAT I WANT THAT—and the question of who would survive. This was, somehow, better.
I did love to see Lucy being so badass while undercover, but I’m also not upset it seems she may be postponing doing more of that for the time being. [For more on the finale and what’s to come, here’s what THE ROOKIE boss Alexi Hawley shared.]
