LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME: Ellen Burstyn to Return as Bernie Stabler

LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME is adding another Stabler to the mix: Ellen Burstyn is reprising her role of Bernadette Stabler in a season 2 episode, Give Me My Remote has learned.

Bernie, Elliot’s (Christopher Meloni) mother, was first introduced in the LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT episode, “Swing.” In the hour, Elliot’s quest to help his sick and spiraling daughter, Kathleen (Allison Siko) led him to seek out his then-unmentioned mother…who viewers learned was bipolar. Bernie—with a push from Olivia (Mariska Hargitay)—helped Kathleen face her own mental health issues and seek treatment. (Bernie, however, had lived most of her life off medication, which led to her estrangement from Elliot.)

And while Olivia won’t appear in the ORGANIZED CRIME hour, she is mentioned…

Earlier this year, ORGANIZED CRIME boss Ilene Chaiken acknowledged there was room to bring back Bernie or Elliot’s unseen siblings. “Certainly in the future seasons, everything is on the table,” she teased at the time.

Burstyn won a Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series Emmy in 2009 for her time on SVU. Her ORGANIZED CRIME episode is set to air this fall.
