Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Sunday, October 4, 2009

October 4, 2009 by

Maybe you’re watching football. Perhaps brunch with friends. Whatever you do on this Sunday, be sure to rest up for the onslaught on primetime TV coming your way. Personally, I choose not to think about it all day…I don’t like to be stressed.  I’ll be ready. Count on it.

What will YOUR Sunday night TV lineup look like? Definitely leave a note in the comments so I know which Sunday night shows you are most interested in.

The Amazing Race 15 | 8pm on CBS
“It’s Liked Being Dropped on Planet Mars”
Teams struggle to combat the hectic pace of Vietnam; one team puts its own race in jeopardy by offering to help the competition. [GMMR: Don’t forget – if you are DVRing this show and not watching it live then you’ll probably want to set it to record at least 30 minutes longer than the show. Football usually runs long. I have my DVR set to record THE AMAZING RACE from 8-10pm, just in case.]

The Simpsons | 8pm on Fox
“Barts Gets a Z”
Bart and the rest of his class decide to teach Mrs. Krabappel a lesson when she confiscates their cell phones

The Cleveland Show | 8:30pm on Fox
Da Daggone Daddy-Daughter Dinner Dance
Cleveland tries to win over his new stepdaughter, Roberta, by asking her to the school’s father/daughter dance.

Family Guy | 9pm on Fox
“Family Goy”
Lois’ trip to the doctor reveals some news about her heritage; Peter is visited by his father’s ghost.

Desperate Housewives | 9pm on ABC
“Being Alive”
Lynette keeps a secret from Susan; Gaby gives Ana advice on getting a guy’s attention; Bree fears her affair with Karl will impact her friendship with Susan; Angie is determined to protect her family’s past.

Three Rivers | 9pm on CBS | Series Premiere
“Place of Life”
Andy tells a young pregnant woman who has had a heart attack that only a transplant can save her and the fetus; unexpected complications with the donor’s family jeopardize the procedure. [GMMR: Sorry MOONLIGHT fans. I know you love Alex O’Loughlin, but he deserves better than this show.  They reworked the pilot a bit (the original pilot will supposedly air later in the season), but even with the changes they made, THREE RIVERS is one of the weakest shows of this Fall season.]

More of tonight’s lineup after the break…

Dexter | 9pm on Showtime
“Remains to be Seen”
While investigating slayings with Agent Lundy, Dexter misplaces crucial evidence that could expose him.

Drop Dead Diva | 9pm on Lifetime
“Dead Model Walking”
Jane is star stuck when she takes on Deb’s favorite fashion model as a client; Grayson and Kim take on a pro bono case.

Curb Your Enthusiasm | 9pm on HBO
“The Reunion”
After years of rejecting a “Seinfeld” reunion, Larry finally changes his mind and sets out to convince Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander and Michael Richards to get on board. Meg Ryan and David Spade have cameos. [GMMR:I haven’t seen a full ep of ‘Curb’ and while I appreciated ‘Seinfeld’ I was never a huge fan.  But even I’ll be recording this episode tonight.]

Bored to Death | 9:30pm on HBO
“The Case of the Missing Screenplay”
A filmmaker is interested in having Jonathan rewrite a screenplay; George runs into his ex-wife and her new husband

Brothers & Sisters | 10pm on ABC
“Breaking the News”
Robert worries that news of his heart attack will leak to the media; Kitty grapples with an untold secret that will affect her marriage and unite the family as never before; Kevin and Scotty discuss surrogacy. [GMMR:Lots of Scotty & Kevin in tonight’s episode so YAY. (They’re my favorite) And if you wonder why Sally Field keeps getting nominated for an Emmy, then you should probably watch this episode through to the end. She damn near killed me.]

Mad Men | 10pm on AMC
“Souvenir”
Don decides to include Betty on a company business trip; Pete lends a hand to a neighbor in his apartment building.

Californication | 10pm on Showtime
“The Land of Rape and Honey”
Newly minted college professor Hank tarnishes his image and finds himself in a campus imbroglio when his overly candid assessment of a student’s work goes over the line. Elsewhere, Charlie takes a bit too much interest in Marcy’s affairs

Cold Case | 10pm on CBS
“Hoodrats”
The team investigates the 1995 murder of a teenager who left his dysfunctional home and gained fame on the streets for his skateboarding skills.

Entourage | 10:30pm on HBO
“Give a Little Bit”
Eric plans a special lunch for Sloan; Ari tries to convince his wife that buying Terrance’s company is not a personal vendetta; Turtle decides to make a grand gesture to be with Jamie-Lynn; Drama resolves to give up acting.

Army Wives | 10pm on Lifetime
“Fire in the Hole”
Viola surprises everyone with her singing; Michael learns a four-star general will be making a visit to Fort Marshall; Denise’s competitive side comes out during a golf tournament.

Also playing…

  • Extreme Makeover: Home Edition | 8pm on ABC: The team travels to Green County, Mo., to rebuild a home for a family that recently doubled in size from four to eight members.
  • American Dad | 9:30pm on Fox: Stan tries to persuade the dictator of Isla to sign a treaty in hopes of getting a promotion at work; Steve and Snot start a competition

Talk to me. What are you watching? DVRing?

I’ll get us started.  I will be watching THE AMAZING RACE, MAD MEN and ENTOURAGE. I’ve already seen this week’s BROTHERS & SISTERS (so I can skip it tonight).  I’ll be DVRing CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM and THE FAMILY GUY.

Since I lost my Sunday night TV when Defying Gravity ended, I’m actually going to give Three Rivers a shot. I know it’s gotten some horrible reviews, but I like Alex O’Laughlin, and I love Kate Moennig, so hopefully that will be enough to keep my interest.
