TV Buzz: Gervais Hosting; Jackson Returning; Friends & the Creek Reuniting and more…
October 28, 2009 by Kath Skerry
Hear that? That’s the sound of the random TV news buzzzzzzzing around in my head. No rhyme or reason to the following bits of TV news – just want to rant, rave and review randomness. Since it’s going to be a few more weeks until I’ll be back to full time blogging, I thought perhaps these TV Buzz posts will keep us talking TV. Let me know what you think?
- Ricky Gervais will be hosting the Golden Globes next year. Honestly, I’m fine if they just skip giving out the trophies and just let Ricky riff on whatever he wants for three hours. There are fewer people that make me laugh more than that man. Brilliant. Are you excited to see Ricky host? Who else would you like to see take on hosting duties?
- It’s been confirmed that Lisa Kudrow will reunited with former FRIENDS co-star Courtney Cox on COUGAR TOWN. Am I the only person who could care less about any kind of FRIENDS reunion? I loved the show, and didn’t miss an episode, but for some reason every time they try to reunite different cast members it just seems pathetic. Move on, people. Why do I feel like I should duck before people start throwing smelly cats at me?
- With my back injury I missed out on the chance to tell you how much I loved the premiere of USA’s new show WHITE COLLAR. It’s slick, suave and funny. Oh and it’s got Bryce Larkin from CHUCK. If the season premiere is any indication as to where this show is going, you do NOT want to miss out on this one. Set the DVR for Friday at 10pm. The show is that good. And for those who asked, yes, we’ll be covering it here on GMMR. Did anyone see the premiere? Thoughts?
- Jonathan Jackson, who originally played the role of Lucky Spencer (Luke & Laura’s son) returned to GENERAL HOSPITAL this week. I’m off the soaps. Have been for some time now. But Jonathan Jackson was the center of it all for me back in my GH days. Loved him! His return isn’t enough to get me watching the show again, but maybe I’ve been guilty of hitting ye old YouTube for a peek. Jackson has always been fantastic and I never understood why his career never took off. His last “big” role was his four episode stint as Kyle Reese on TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES.
- If you are in the L.A. area and plan on attending “Dawson’s Creek: A Look Back” at the Paley Center on November 4th, let me know if you have any interest in covering it for GMMR. It kills me not to be there. And speaking of The Beek, James van der Beek will be guesting on an upcoming episode of THE FORGOTTEN. I can’t say that he alone is going to be enough to get me to turn it on
- I’ve been staying with my folks the past few weeks while recuperating. And guess what? Moms and Pops GMMR are big fans of BONES! Who knew? Over the past few weeks I’ve caught a few episodes and I am kind of liking it. Now don’t get all up in my face BONES fans. I know you love your show and you want me to start watching from the beginning, but it just ain’t happening. Not right now at least. Too much other TV to catch up on. But I will say that I see the appeal (esp of David…yum). I’m not on board with Temperance yet, but I think it’s because I haven’t been watching all along. She just seems extraordinarily drab to me. But anyway, since this post is all about my random thoughts, I figured I’d pass that along. (SPOILER ALERT!) Maybe I’ll tune into the 100th episode when the show flashes back to Bones and Booth’s first assignment. That could be fun.
- I just got the chance to catch up on this past week’s THE AMAZING RACE. I think The Globetrotters might be one of my favorite TAR teams of all time. They are fun, they are enjoying the race for the experience and they don’t let much get to them. Now if they could only tell time. So glad Mika and Cannan are gone. How annoying? I have major phobias when it comes to heights, but I still would have gone down that waterslide if $1M was on the line! Those swimmies she had on? Ridiculous? Are you all watching? Any favorites?
- Speaking of reality TV, if you’ve never seen EW.com’s webshow, Realite, then you MUST check it out. Michael Slezak talk reality with co-hosts including Annie Barrett and Kristen Baldwin. If you liked Idolatry then you’ll be loving this new show too. It’s so good that I even stay tuned to watch them talk about the shows I don’t watch (yes, I’m talking about YOU America’s Next Top Model).
So that’s about that. Just some random TV related buzz on my mind. What’s been buzzing around in your brain (dark I ask)? The comments are open. Weigh in on any of the topics above and/or throw your own TV randomness into the mix.

Kath – glad you’re liking Bones – really, who could resist D. Boreanaz? I get your hesitance with Temperance – the love for her is kind of a slow-building one (it was for me anyways). Two words that will make you love her character: dancing phalanges!! Am I right Bones fans? Just picturing that in my mind makes me smile.
Also, Ricky Gervais – yes, please. Always. Especially the Golden Globes where people drink and aren’t always on their best behaviour – perfect choice for him. Can’t wait.
I watch Race, although I’m not enjoying it as much as last season. The gay brothers are fun but kinda slow. Like, in the head. I know I’m like the only one out there who enjoys the poker players. I also like Brian and Erika…(is that her name? The beauty queen, although she was a little high-maintenance this week).
I liked Canaan but HATED Mika’s little display and would have thrown her down the damn slide myself. I’m all about forgiveness, but for me that just means not drowning her.
Nicole! Dancing phalanges! Yes! And the first Gravedigger episode. I think that made me really like her.
White Collar? OMG I LOVE this show! Not Supernatural love but Matt Bomer love! (and mom & dad like it too)
White Collar is soooo incredibly watchable. I think my favorite review was over at Pajiba where he talked about it being the perfect tv marathon view where you just forget to move for hours (although his sentence involved consumption of cake and soda… I prefer to pretend that part of the statement isn’t the complete truth). The show is the tv equivalent of good comfort food, not high minded and sometimes a bit traditional, but oh so yummy.
I’ll be interested to see how Gervais handles the hosting duties. I think what worked about NPH was that while he was funny and irreverent at times during the Tony’s and Emmys he was a host with funny bits, not an absolutely hysterical guy who had to host part of the time.
Liked White Collar a LOT! So glad we will be able to rave about it here. Didn’t love Kelly Kapowski, but whatevs. Maybe i am the only one, but all of a sudden “warrant law” seems kind of interesting. Haha.
Yeah, RG is worth watching, anytime!
Oh, and Bones? Well…when you are about to declare Seeley Booth your newest TV BF, just remember that I called him first, haha, or maybe Patty did!
seeleybaby, you are not the only one who was disappointed in Tiff’s performance. Or maybe it was the character. I like to think it’s the character and that they will slowly roll her out to be more interesting and not totally waste her. That one scene with Matt Yummy-Bomer was great though.
I’ll let you two fight over Agent Booth – although if he is hanging around in the bathtub there might be a fight! (if you don’t know what I am talking about – Google it!)
Aw, this became an extremely nice post. In concept I would like to set up writing like that moreover – taking time and actual effort to produce a great article… but what / things I say… I procrastinate alot by way of no means appear to get something completed.
