About Last Night…BEEBO SAVES CHRISTMAS, THE WONDER YEARS, A MILLION LITTLE THINGS, and More
December 2, 2021 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Wednesday night’s TV!
THE GOLDBERGS: Sometimes it really hits me how old Adam is getting, and him getting accepted for college (!!!!) sure was one of those moments. It makes sense he was upset about going to a school in a different state than Brea, especially as a pop culture nerd who knows how rarely those long-distance relationships work out despite people in shows/movies swearing they will, but I’m glad neither gave up their dream school. I don’t know how the show will continue past Adam in high school, but if they think they can do it, I’ll be intrigued to see what they come up with.
BEEBO SAVES CHRISTMAS: This was very, very cute. Beebo has become this delightful cult figure in the ARROWverse, and it makes sense to give him an animated special and have it be holiday-based. I don’t know if I was exactly their key demo (and I’m so curious what kids who had absolutely no attachment to the ARROWverse thought of it), but it was so charming and a fun hour.
THE WONDER YEARS: Man, Dean’s brother returning and then immediately re-enlisting to fight in Vietnam was absolutely heartbreaking. It makes a lot of sense he’d have struggles adjusting to life back home and also deal with guilt about the friends still enlisted, but the family was so happy for a brief moment.
THE CONNERS: I really appreciate that this many seasons in, the show hasn’t ignored the importance of Roseanne to the family. It sounds so basic, but so frequently shows just move on. Dan had an entire life with Roseanne. Shared furniture has way more meaning when the person you shared it with died.
Also, I know it won’t end well, but Nick and Darlene are very cute.
A MILLION LITTLE THINGS: The show is notorious for zigging when we expect it to zag, and still Rome admitting to Regina that his depression was back was still an absolute gut punch. I’m so glad he acknowledged it, though, and confided in Regina…it’s an important step.
Gary also broke my heart with his goodbye to Liam. I loved the makeshift family he formed with Liam and Darcy, but it, unfortunately, makes sense that Gary burned that bridge after he helped ambush Peter. Gary doing what he could to close that door was beautifully selfless.
Eddie and Anna have good chemistry, but my goodness, this feels like a dangerous possible relationship. Also, I’m happy Sophie got into her dream school, and I really hope she’s rejecting it for the right reasons.
(But Maggie, my God, it’s not a good idea to visit your stalker. Even with backup.)
[For more on the fall finale, here’s what James Roday Rodriguez had to say.]
