CHICAGO FIRE: Derek Haas Teases a ‘Giant Call’ in the Winter Premiere
January 5, 2022 by Marisa Roffman
CHICAGO FIRE returns on Wednesday, January 5 with Stella (Miranda Rae Mayo) back at home, and her friends and loved ones looking for answers.
“The big stuff is going to be Severide and Stella, just personally, and then Stella and Firehouse 51 and where is she going to fit, professionally,” CHICAGO FIRE showrunner Derek Haas previews.
Naturally, amidst the personal chaos, the Firehouse has to contend with a major emergency.
“There’s a giant call,” Haas teases. “There’s a big call with hazardous materials underneath Chicago, in Lower Wacker. And it’s one of those really giant calls that takes up almost half the episode.”
“Ritter ends up being a big part of that story,” he continues. “There’s a person who has a similar reaction he had in the very first FIRE where we met [him], so Ritter ends up being a big part of that story.”
Things will be a little bit lighter for the youngest trio at Firehouse 51—Violet (Hanako Greensmith), Gallo (Alberto Rosende), and Ritter (Daniel Kyri)—in an episode airing later in January, when they’re forced to endure a new-to-them Chicago Fire tradition.
“The next fun storyline for them is that they haven’t had the Chicago Fire Department Gala since COVID,” Haas previews. “So this is the first gala back [since] COVID—and the event is not exactly what was planned.”
