LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME Recap: The Wheatley Arc Comes to an End
March 3, 2022 by Marisa Roffman
[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the Thursday, March 3 episode “…Wheatley is to Stabler.”]
Nearly a year after Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and Wheatley (Dylan McDermott) officially collided, their feud came to a messy end.
With Manhattan blacked out, Wheatley made his demands clear: He wanted Elliot to pay, he wanted his son, Richie (Nick Creegan), released from jail, and he wanted a jet to leave town.
Unfortunately for Richie, the purpose of the reunion wasn’t exactly a good one: After Richie nearly turned on his father during the ill-fated trial, it was too much for Wheatley to overcome and he shot his son in cold blood.
Wheatley wanted Elliot to confess his sins in public, including the number of kills he made while on the job, being guilty of the use of excessive force and harassment. But, most importantly, Richard wants Elliot to admit he falsely accused “an innocent man” of killing Kathy. But after admitting everything else, Elliot refused to admit that.
So Richard played his card: He had Bernie (Ellen Burstyn) kidnapped. He escaped, with ex-wife/possible accomplice Angela behind the wheel. Elliot, who was once bonded with Angela, tried to plead for her to share where Bernie was.
“As long as you’re alive, you still have a choice,” Elliot told Angela.
Richard boasted to Angela they were bound to each other; she questioned whether he thought he would really be able to pull it off.
After saving Bernie, Elliot headed after Richard and Angela. Elliot called Angela and told her the truth: Richard killed Richie. Angela, who already lost one son at the hands of Richard, did what she needed to do: She drove the car off a cliff, (seemingly) killing herself and Richard.
(Taylor, her part, previously teased Angela would go far to take out Richard: “I think she will find a way out, one way or another.”)
However, despite the closure, of sorts, Elliot had a possible career hiccup: The department wants to look into his conduct while on the foce.
Elliot, moping over, well, everything, reunited with Frank Donnelly (Denis Leary), whose father worked with Elliot’s on the force back in the day. He told Elliot he spoke with Olivia the other day: Elliot can use a friend right about now.
