A MILLION LITTLE THINGS Bosses on the Move to Midseason and Season 4 Finale Reveal

A MILLION LITTLE THINGS will be returning for a fifth season, but for the first time in the show’s run, the premiere will be held until midseason. But while fans may lament the long wait, the show’s team is ecstatic about the change.

“We are thrilled,” A MILLION LITTLE THINGS creator DJ Nash admits. “We basically did a 38-episode season, because we did 18 [in season 3] and then 20 [in season 4], back to back. So many of our stories are from the writers’ real life experiences, and we’re excited to give these incredible writers a chance to go have some life experience.”

“We’re so thrilled that we get to do another season, but I think part of us being thrilled to do another season was knowing that we could take a break to be with our families,” he continues.

“It’s really the ideal situation for us; DJ is exactly right,” adds executive producer Terrence Coli. “When you’re writing stories about your real life, you have to let people have a real life. And that includes DJ and me, too. And our actors, as well, in order for them to bring their truth to the stories that we’re asking them to tell. We’re really happy about it, and we’re also happy that we’ll have a little breathing room to craft the season with some time; to really put thought and consideration into it. It’s exactly what we would have wanted.”

With season 4 being the longest one the show has done yet, season 5 will have less episodes.

“I’ve always said like the secret to the success of the show is, right from the pitch, we were all talking about same show,” Nash notes. “I think the network, TC, and I are on the same page: Let’s make this [upcoming] season not as many episodes as last season. They probably want that for their schedule, but for us, I think we can make sure that every episode is essential.”

Of course, fans still have the season 4 finale to look forward to—an hour Nash previously teased will be “our biggest cliffhanger so far.”

“I think our shows is built on card flips, just even going back to Constance Zimmer saying one line in the pilot, you knew…she’s gonna come back in some relevant way,” Nash notes. “In the same way that we realized stuff that’s in front of us, but didn’t do the math on it, in the first season with Jon, there’s stuff that we will realize in the [season 4] finale that was in front of fans the whole time they were watching, and suddenly the truth is revealed.”
