LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME Season 2 Finale Recap: Elliot’s Latest Undercover Mission Comes to an End

LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME came full circle in its season 2 finale, as Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) was awarded the combat cross—the same award his father received. (The difference is Joseph Stabler got it thanks to a bad shoot; Elliot earned his.)
Things moved fast, as Kilbride (Ron Cephas Jones) was arrested—much to Denise’s (Keren Dukes) chagrin—and Donnelly (Denis Leary) was informed Elliot was undercover.
Donnelly told the Brotherhood about Elliot’s betrayal, and vowed to get revenge. He lured him to a house in Harlem where he said Webb was hiding out. Instead, the Brotherhood confronted him, and shot him three times.
Bell (Danielle Moné Truitt) found Elliot passed out and he revealed he was wearing a bulletproof vest. “I feel like I’ve been trampled by an elephant,” Elliot joked. But with him seemingly dead, he realized it was the best way to take down the Brotherhood.
With everyone but Frank caught, Elliot tracked him down—after a lengthy chase. Frank lambasted Elliot’s betrayal. “You took a wrong turn,” Elliot said. But Donnelly wasn’t willing to be taken in: “You broke my heart, pal,” he said before stepping in front of an oncoming train.
But the successful mission did lead to the aforementioned combat cross. Elliot got emotional when Bell told him he was receiving it. “This is hard for me,” Elliot acknowledged.
Elliot reluctantly accepted the combat cross, as he was told “you’re a credit to the department and the shield.” On hand to celebrate were his kids, Cragen (Dann Florek), and the OCCB squad.
Things weren’t great for everyone, though, as Bell learned Denise had left her—and taken their kid. And with Webb (Mykelti Williamson) taken out, Cassandra (Jennifer Beals) was originally charged with his murder. (She was also charged with placing the hit on Stabler.) But with them not being able to pin Webb’s death on her, the charges were downgraded—and Nova (Nona Parker Johnson), who just told her brother she planned to quit being a cop, looked awfully suspicious when she acknowledged anyone could have taken out Webb.
Back at home, Elliot and Bernie (Ellen Burstyn) talked about his feelings of guilt for betraying Donnelly and the complicated emotions behind getting the combat cross. “Now you know the price,” Bernie noted.
