CHICAGO FIRE Recap: Did Stellaride Tie the Knot?

[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the Wednesday, May 25 season finale of CHICAGO FIRE.]

With Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) deciding to move their wedding up, the Wednesday, May 25 CHICAGO FIRE season finale found the couple trying to get through all of their last-minute prep.

As they tried to find a place to get hitched, they scored a place that became available when the previously-set couple dropped out. And with the location down, Stella asked Boden (Eamonn Walker) to walk her down the aisle.

Last month, Walker acknowledged he was hoping the show would go down that road. “Because I’ve taken onboard Kidd as my kind of surrogate daughter, I would really appreciate giving her away,” he told reporters.

Now, executive producers Derek Haas and Andrea Newman pointed to “the moment between Boden and Stella” as a highlight of the episode for them. “That moment was beautiful and built over seven seasons,” they wrote via email. “They are wonderful together.”

Casey (Jesse Spencer) also returned to be Severide’s best man. “As cliche as it sounds, she’s made you a better man,” Casey told his friend. “You guys are meant to be.”

“It hasn’t been the same around here since you left,” Severide answered. “It never will be.”

But when the wedding party got to their spot—only to discover the original couple wanted it back, and so they couldn’t get married as planned. But Casey found a backup: They could rent out a boat, and the captain could marry them.

However, before they got on the boat, Severide found out his mom was trying to contact him and he discovered she had been trying to get to the wedding—but was delayed. “I’ve seen how committed you are to your bride to be. And you deserve all the happiness in the world, my boy,” his mom said.

With everything finally in place, Severide and Stella finally said their vows, which they wrote themselves.

“Kelly, the simple truth is you are magic to me,” Stella said. “Whenever I’m at my lowest, you lift me up. You never leave my side. You are the gooddest of men. And, yes, we are taking a huge, crazy leap into the unknown, but we’re doing it together. And when I need to hear it, you’ll tell me, ‘You’ve got this, Stella Kidd,’ and I’ll know that everything will be okay. Because it always is when I’m with you. I love you with everything I’ve got. And I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”

Then it was Severide’s turn: “Stella, I decided a long time ago, if I was going to be with you, I needed to be worthy of you. It seemed impossible. How do I become worthy of someone brave enough to show who they are, inside and out? What makes me this better person I keep hearing about—you keep me from locking things up. Instead, you made sure you really knew me. And by some miracle, you still love me. Stella, I might never be worthy of you, but I promise to spend the rest of my life trying. I love you.”

“I love you so much,” she replies.

And, despite everything else going awry, the duo was finally hitched! But it wasn’t all good news, as an unknown figure stalked the happy couple on their wedding night. (The fallout of Severide making enemies of a powerful criminal right before his wedding.)
