PASSWORD: NBC Sets August Launch, Sets Martin Short, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jon Hamm, and More Celebrity Guests

The upcoming PASSWORD revival will debut with a two-night premiere on Tuesday, August 9 at 10/9c and Wednesday, August 10 at 9/8c, NBC announced.

In the premiere, star Jimmy Fallon—who will appear in all of the season 1 episodes—and Jon Hamm will compete in an episode dedicated to Betty White. (White was a frequent celebrity player of the game, and was married to original PASSWORD host Allen Ludden.)

In addition to Hamm, the celebrities on tap for season 1 include: Yvette Nicole Brown, Tony Hale, Chelsea Handler, Heidi Klum, Joel McHale, Chrissy Metz, Martin Short, J.B. Smoove, and Meghan Trainor. (Keke Palmer has been tapped to host the game show.)

According to NBC, “in each of the hour-long episodes, a celebrity and Fallon will pair up with contestants over two games. Players from each team guess a secret password using only one-word clues in an effort to take home up to $25,000.” The first season will also include legacy contestants from the ’80s version of series, as they see if they still have what it takes to compete on the game show.

The original version of PASSWORD launched in 1961, before being revived in 1979 and 1984. In the years since it’s been off the air, it’s been utilized as a game segment on LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON and THE TONIGHT SHOW. (Repeats of all three versions of the series also air daily on the cable channel Buzzr.)
