Jim & Pam: The Best Moment We Never Saw

I’m sorry, but John Krasinski is so ridicuously good in this deleted scene from the “Booze Cruise” episode that I just had to share it.
I’m personally glad this scene didn’t make it into the show, because it would have (1) taken away from the impact of the ’27 seconds of silence’ and (2) perhaps forever ruined my vision of Pam Beesly. Because to be honest, I was kind of hating her in this scene. Having just had that HUGE moment with Jim on the deck, it kills me to see her all smiley with Roy again…and then standsby with a huge smile as she watches Jim have to do THIS. That’s just wrong.
WARNING – If you haven’t yet watched the DVDs, you might want to skip this video…yeah right, I dare you NOT to watch.

I couldn’t resist. Dammit! Jim breaks my heart here, but I agree that the flow of scenes in the episode was better.
I haven’t received my DVD yet – stop tempting me!! ugh…
I’m conflicted about this scene. JK does such a wonderful acting job in it, and I think it does more to explain why he abruptly breaks up with Katy. At the same time, I’m glad it was left out, because you’re right- I think it would’ve lessened the impact of the silence on the boat deck. This, to me, is more like “did you see how Jim missed his chance earlier, well here’s ANOTHER misses opportunity!” Still, it breaks my heart. I just want to give Jim a big hug!
I agree, I loved this scene when I watched it on the DVD, but it would have taken something away from the episode, it does explain a lot about the breakup, and the 27 seconds. Its so good!
I was annoyed with Pam, too. In the original episode, I felt the same way, and for all of the reasons you described. This deleted scene just made me MORE upset with her.
This is my take on Pam’s reaction. She has just told Katy that she “has been engaged for three years and there’s no end in sight.” She has pretty much given up on it, when, BAM!, Roy goes and surprises her and decides to set a date. I think that the sheer surprise made her extremely happy, it went from not going to happen to June 10th in a minute and ten seconds–yeah, I counted it–that’s enough to overwhelm someone with happiness. I’m not saying that it isn’t upsetting to see Pam so happy and Jim so sad, especially since everything could have turned out differently if something besides silence happened during those 27 seconds. The thing is, it was such a real reaction to me, and that’s why I like the show–it’s so real. I could see it happening to real people that I care about, too, and I would be just as upset that one of my friends was enormously excited about her lunkhead fiance setting the date while my other friend is utterly devastated because things could have turned out differently if he had just told her how he felt about her ten seconds before lunkhead finace drunkenly set a date.
Poor Jim……..Pam is so freaking BLIND.

aww don’t hate on pam! she’s just in a really bad position — the ‘love of your life’ vs. ‘the guy who is SO PERFECT FOR YOU’ is not an easy place to be in … !!!! i cant wait til 9.21!
I would agree, Kate, except I wouldn’t call Roy the love of her life. More like “the guy she happens to be engaged to after dating him for over 10 years and now he’s like a bad habit that’s hard to break even though you know you should.”

What’s he gonna do, reveal his love in front of all his officemates, his current girlfriend, random strangers, the girl of his dreams, AND her fiance, who just made a big step in their relationship?
I used to be really anti-Pam for putting Jim through this kind of hell, but some very insightful females on the LJ boards managed to show me the light. I have a hard time looking at scenes like this without thinking, “You’re a fool Halpert. Wake up! She’s just not that into you…not that way, anyway.”
Great acting, though.
My goodness when I saw this scene I had to pause it before I saw the entire thing b/c I was like “NO FREAKIN WAY!”
John is amazing in this scene, I gotta admit…I almost cried.
I finally got to this on my DVD’s last night and, I was thinking the same thing as what I’ve just read here.
But, in defense of Pam, she really just doesn’t realize what she’s doing. I think that she got her wake up call in Casino Night.
Is it 8:30 Thursday night yet?
