FBI: INTERNATIONAL: Derek Haas Teases the New Addition to the Team, More Character ‘Showcase’ Episodes in Season 2

FBI: INTERNATIONAL returns on Tuesday, September 20 for its sophomore season, with changes afoot.

Gone is the Fly Team’s liaison, Europol Agent Katrin Jaeger (Christiane Paul), who was promoted at the end of the first season; now, they’ll be working with Megan “Smitty” Garretson (Eva-Jane Willis), who was described as “a street-wise Europol agent with an extensive undercover background.”

Naturally, he first case Smitty works with the team has high stakes: an American detective is killed in Paris while working a case. Enter the Fly Team.

Ahead of the second season premiere, showrunner Derek Haas answered a few questions about what’s to come via email…

What can you tease about the addition of Smitty? How is she fitting in with the team? Is this a position she wants?
Smitty and Scott share a history from when he was new to the Fly Team and she first joined Europol. So they have a foundation based on respect and admiration. She’s a great addition to the show!

At the end of last season, you mentioned Scott and Jamie were friends, right now. Where are we finding them this season? If it’s still friends, is either person looking to really move on with someone else/how might that impact their dynamic?
They are still friends. They care for each other and always have each other’s backs, but they’re keeping it professional for now!

Jamie, Vo, and Raines had really personally tough cases at the end last season. What kind of wins are we seeing for them early in season 2? (Or if things are going to still be tough, what can you tease about that and how they’ll be coping?)
We love doing these kinds of showcase episodes, so look for more of those in season 2. Raines is going to have to make a decision on whether or not he wants to chase the management side of the FBI or stay in the field. And we might just have a chance to see Jaeger again this season!

Writing/production-wise, what do you feel the biggest difference or change has been from season 1 and season 2? Was there anything in particular you’re finally able to do or something you learned just didn’t work as well as you hoped?
Yes, we have an amazing crew and we’ve figured out how to bounce around Europe much more often. Already this season, we’ve shot in Paris, Mallorca, and Croatia (again)…with plans to go to Italy and Germany also on the books. We’re trying to give the audience a network show that looks like no other on television.

Anything else you can tease?
Yes…we have a cool episode set in Greece where Vo is summoned to help an old friend. It’s a thrill ride with lots of action! I hope you guys dig it!
