Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!

FBI: Okay, that was an absolutely badass—though totally dangerous—action sequence for OA. The location they shot a chunk of the episode at was actually stunning, though, because the grounds made for a great landscape for the car-with-a-bomb getaway and then the on-foot fugitive chase. (Also, the brief bit of OA undercover was fun.)

I continue to feel awful for Jubal, though, who can’t seem to find the right balance between work and his son. No one can, really, blame him for trying to save a kid’s life (and who knows how many other lives along the way)

THE VOICE: I can’t decide if Kevin picking Blake is brilliant or absolutely going to backfire. We’ve seen unlikely pairings work out (big fish in a small pond, so to speak), but there’s also the risk the coach will lean into their genre and/or their fans won’t embrace them quite as much. We’ll see.

I know it’s early so far, but it feels like Camila is really running away with getting contestants a lot of them want. (Also early, but: We don’t need to have Blake and Gwen bring up their marriage every time one or both of them turn around.)

FBI: INTERNATIONAL: Okay, I already love Smitty. And hello to gorgeous Paris!

I was thinking we might get a bit more of Raines contemplating management training, but I’m also glad it really wasn’t super dramatic for him. While Scott’s pitch was funny, Raines being happy being boots on the ground is lovely.

Also, I want to know more about Scott’s mom so…will the next episode pick up with that conversation?

NEW AMSTERDAM: I don’t exactly know how to feel about the premiere, and I’m not sure how much of that is me versus the episode itself.

It’s never great for viewers when one of the stars doesn’t return for the final season—and in this case, the second lead of the show, in a short order end. I’ll miss Helen, full stop. Whether she and Max were/are end game or not, I loved her as a character outside of him and that relationship. Her presence in the hospital is already missed.

Part of me is skeptical to believe they’re over-over, too. With EP David Schulner making it clear we’ll likely see Freema Agyeman again, the thing I’ve come back to a number of times in the weeks since I’ve seen this episode is, strangely enough, SUPERSTORE. That show started it (unintended) final season with a breakup of the core couple, with the woman leaving, the man staying behind, and it being more due to being unsettled versus a lack of love. Is this the same kind of situation? I truly don’t know. (Only the premiere was made available.) Or it’s very possible this is it and it will be something that’s forever (really) unresolved.

There’s also a part of me that’s wondered how much I’ve 500 DAYS OF SUMMER-ed this relationship. In rewatching the clips from last season in the premiere, Helen did make it repeatedly clear something was wrong—I (and Max) just didn’t really want to hear it. That doesn’t make her the bad guy (arguably, it makes Max look worse, because as Eggold said, if “you want something to work badly enough, you’re sort of willing to forego looking at it honestly”; in this case, Max saw what he wanted to), but it just makes it…messy.

Do I wish they had gone another route? Sure. At the very least, Helen was Luna’s mum, and I struggle to believe she’d leave her this way, even if she couldn’t make it work with Max. And maybe they’ll find a way to make this all make sense. But right now I’m feeling a bit unmoored.

FBI: MOST WANTED: “Jess would never do something this reckless” made me gasp, as did Remy bringing up JESS GETTING SHOT. Uh, so, Barnes and Remy have a long way to go.

In some ways, it’s fun to see them butt heads, because they should. Remy got used to things, with this team he inherited, and now Barnes is back. And Barnes had a whole lot more time with the team—and in a perfect world, frankly, she would be the boss—and the loss of Jess was still so fresh; everything changed around her, again. But on the other…I don’t want either to be miserable, so I hope they can find peace with each other soon.

(Pretty funny to see Remy embracing his inner Eddie Ashes, though.)
