About Last Night…THE SIMPSONS, THE GREAT NORTH, THE ROOKIE, and More
September 26, 2022 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!
THE SIMPSONS: The group of conspiracy theorists in Springfield tracks…as does Homer accidentally getting sucked into their group. But who saw him actually solving the case coming? (Which, uh, probably speaks to how out there the group actually was.)
Also: I would watch (and be horrified by) a Homer cooking channel.
THE GREAT NORTH: Beef’s lack of small talk is truly appalling, but of course it came from his hurt. The fact some of his ex’s “places” are still no-go zones for the family speaks to how much he has been wounded this entire time. The show does a great job of showcasing the humor while also lacing in the real, understandable trauma they’re all living with. I’m so glad to have the family back.
CELEBRITY WHEEL OF FORTUNE: Nothing will be funnier than Snoop thinking “Talented Artist” was “Toilet Atlas.” I’m so sorry to every single answer/contestant for the rest of the season, this is our peak.
BOB’S BURGERS: Well, Mr. Fischoeder was at least successful with the play? And poor Bob struggling with whether he should expand his business. While he deserves more success, some of the charm is the small, friendly (most of the time) spot he does have. Bright side: He confessed it in the most dramatic way possible to Linda?
FAMILY GUY: Okay, the best part of the episode was the “Two Princes” gag. It probably hurts I either don’t love the films included in this episode or hadn’t seen them—two of not-loving, one not seeing—but…yeah. At least I laughed at “Two Princes.”
THE ROOKIE: I’m torn between being nervously excited about what absolute mayhem Rosalind is going to dream up and being very anxious about how much our guys are going to be tormented. Because she’s free, she could be doing anything, and look out Lucy.
Speaking of Lucy…holy Chenford. Melissa O’Neil and Eric Winter have always had great on-screen chemistry, but Lucy and Tim having to fake being a couple—and essentially acknowledge it, at the same time, for the first time—was absolutely fire. They might not have crossed a huge physical line, but they were going to. (You know, before they realized her boyfriend had been mutilated.) That might push them apart for a bit, but I don’t know how much longer they can realistically stay apart.
I’m glad Nolan is sticking with his plan to be a training officer. THE ROOKIE boss Alexi Hawley has made it clear, repeatedly, how important it is that police reform is a part of the show, and this is a great, authentic way to keep that storyline at the forefront.
[For more from Hawley on what’s to come in season 5 & breaking down the big premiere moments, here’s what he shared.]
