THE SIMPSONS: When Carl is smitten by a beautiful black woman, he looks into the roots of his own identity by discovering the origins of a mysterious rodeo buckle in the “Carl Carlson Rides Again” episode of THE SIMPSONS airing Sunday, Feb 26 (8:00-8:31 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!

THE SIMPSONS: I loved this episode about Carl. It’s hard to add believable depth to characters after this many years, but the show did a really great job at digging into what we’ve already seen (Carl’s adoption and his being the only Black person in his friend group) and explaining a bit of his origin story. It was really lovely, and the Henry Gates Jr. appearance for the FINDING YOUR ROOTS homage was a great touch.

THE EQUALIZER: Literal laugh out loud at Harry getting brownies from Aunt Vi for giving her his streaming passwords. Get them back on-screen together ASAP, please and thanks.

My heart does break for Robyn, though. After she just got over feeling betrayed by Mel, now she accidentally betrayed Dante. Obviously it wasn’t her fault, but Randall getting away could be bad.

Dante choosing to save Mel, though…my heart. I hope Dante doesn’t blame himself too much—even though we know he will—and I hope Randall comes back into play sooner versus later so the team has a second chance to take him down.

AMERICAN IDOL: God, Katy Perry’s outburst about the gun violence in this country was warranted and correct. Trey Louis also seems like he could be a real contender for the show, so it was a mix of a memorable audition, plus a memorable aftermath.

Overall, though, it also just felt like a stronger episode than the premiere. Intrigued to see what the talent in episode 3 is like.

THE GREAT NORTH: Oh, that was a nightmare cult the girls ended up at. And having to hide in a port-a-potty? Absolutely not.

Beef and the kids trying to get out of his arranged marriage was a hysterical mess. This poor family is too nice.

MAGNUM P.I.: The Gordy storyline grabbed me more this week, as he got stabbed (!) saving a K-Pop star, while also figuring out the people trying to kill her was from her own team. (And every interaction his son had with her was also freaking hilarious.)

The team is realllllly convinced Greene didn’t give them up. I don’t think Greene would have, willingly, but I hope they’re right. And what an absolutely awful freaking way to die, good lord.

BOB’S BURGERS: Look, good for Linda for having so much faith in Louise. And, hey, she was a really good sneaky detective.

FAMILY GUY: Well, now I just want to make a real-life Donkey Kong. (Minus the inevitable injury.)
