About Last Night…THE ROOKIE, AMERICAN AUTO, THE VOICE, and More
March 22, 2023 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!
THE ROOKIE: I laughed. I laughed so much.
Look, there is a delightful meta element to the episode beyond the super obvious: It’s so funny former CASTLE star Jon Huertas, who directed an episode earlier this season, was back behind the camera…but this go-round, also directing his former CASTLE boss (and current THE ROOKIE boss) Alexi Hawley.
And then there was the random Lance Bass. And the delightfully unexpected Josh Hopkins. And Dim and Juicy. AND THE PAINTING OF NOT-GREY. (And then the painting of dragon-slaying Grey.)
It was so much. It was absolutely ridiculous. I loved it.
AMERICAN AUTO: Poor Katherine. It was hilarious and lovely to see her colleagues (begrudgingly…because, yes, fair) hang out with her, because there was no way to leave without making it a Thing…only for them to realize her life was falling apart. The team is still finding its way into being a real cohesive unit, but it’s been fun watching them try.
THE VOICE: Look, I complain about this constantly, but given this was the end of the Blinds and Blake’s final go-round, why did we get multiple no-turns shown? I would have rather seen more of Blake reflecting on the power of this round in the show–which is unique from the other talent shows out there—rather than…that.
But, also, there is no way I believe Kelly didn’t turn for Grace West if she had a space on her team. It absolutely feels like Katie Beth Forakis’ audition happened first and they just swapped the air order.
THAT’S MY JAM: Quavo’s nonsense karaoke was brilliant. This was just a fun episode. It felt pretty even, it didn’t feel obviously staged, and they were all wildly charming. Can we have a rematch of this exact quartet next season, please?
