A MILLION LITTLE THINGS Recap: Gary and Maggie Make a Big Decision

[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the Wednesday, April 26 episode of A MILLION LITTLE THINGS, “tough stuff.”]

It was the best of times and the absolute worst of times for A MILLION LITTLE THINGS’ Gary (James Roday Rodriguez) and Maggie (Allison Miller) on the Wednesday, April 26 episode, “tough stuff.”

After Gary coughed up blood at Katherine (Grace Park) and Greta’s (Cameron Esposito) wedding reception in “ironic,” he went to the hospital to get a check-up. Unfortunately, the news was bad: His cancer had spread to his other lung.

Initially, Gary tried treatment, but it only bought him a few months. When the oncologist told him and Maggie it was now a matter of how to make Gary the most comfortable in the time he had left, Maggie refused to accept it and pointed to a possible trial in Mexico that had success.

Maggie was able to get Gary a spot in the trial, and he packed up his stuff, acknowledging to the guys he was doing this for her…he wanted her to feel like she had done everything possible when he passed.

But with the trial set to take eight weeks, it also meant that all of Gary’s loved ones—outside of Sophie (Lizzy Greene), who decided to go to Mexico with Gary and Maggie to help—had to say goodbye to him before they left…potentially for good.

After their emotional farewells, Maggie changed her mind and decided Gary should spend the duration of his time with the makeshift family he loved. But she did have one important thing in mind to do first: Get married. Maggie tracked down the engagement ring Gary pawned off and bought it back.

Though it was under less-than-ideal circumstances, Gary and Maggie finally tied the knot, surrounded by the people they loved.
