MAGNUM P.I. Recap: Magnum and Higgins Take a Big Step Forward

[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the midseason premiere of MAGNUM P.I.]

Higgins (Perdita Weeks) dropped a bombshell on Magnum (Jay Hernandez) in the midseason premiere of MAGNUM P.I.: She was late and might be pregnant.

But with a case to work, the duo couldn’t exactly find out if she was expecting. As she argued, if she wasn’t pregnant, she wouldn’t be less not pregnant by waiting a day. (His argument, of course, was that if she was pregnant, she would indeed be more pregnant the next day.)

She ultimately won out, and after their case wrapped, Higgins told Magnum she had news.

“Oh, so you’re finally ready to talk,” Magnum joked. “So the question is, beer or bottle of water?”

“I’m not pregnant,” Higgins acknowledged. “I’ll take a beer.”

Magnum took a beat, saying “Oh,” before passing his partner a beer.

“‘Oh?'” Higgins questioned. “I just thought you’d be a bit more relieved.”

“Yeah, yeah, there’s definitely some relief,” he admitted.

“Okay, what if it had gone the other way?” Higgins asked.

Magnum paused. “I think I would have been intimidated, but…but also really happy,” he said.

“But you’re happy I’m not pregnant, right?” Higgins questioned.

“Yes,” he answered.

“Well that doesn’t make sense,” she replied.

“It makes perfect sense,” he countered. “Look, whatever way this would have turned out, it would have been the right way because…because I love you.”

At Higgins’ semi-shocked expression, Magnum reassured her she didn’t have to say anything. “No, I love you, too,” she replied. “And I think I have for a really long time.”

The mood lightened up as the two joked around about who loved more.
